Thanks @weenancyinAmerica.  They are still rock hard at the moment so think they will need to ripen up a bit before I take the insides out!

I had one at lunchtime today which felt nice and soft and was still very firm!

I have stopped buying the wonky avocados in Morries after I had two net bags full that just never got soft. They rotted around the stones and all ended up in the compost bin.

That's what these are @Suffolk_lass.  Hopefully some of them will ripen.  If all else fails then compost heap it will be!

By the way, I made that Seville orange drizzle loaf cake recipe from Waitflower yesterday. I'm going to change the recipe a bit to remove the brown (sugar) and use white (as I have more and it is cheaper) and add another orange zest to the cake.

We are off out this evening to a bee meeting so will be having supper at lunch time - leftover ragu added to cooked macaroni with a small amount of cheese sauce added. I bought some ready frozen (very square cut) little salmon fillets that I need to incorporate soon. Maybe Sunday. We are off out for lunch at a pub with rellies on Saturday and I plan to use my cauliflower in the Nasi Goreng recipe I posted as have yet to try that

  • I've snared a TGTG bag from our local Morries Daily store to collect this evening so our planned omelettes tonight might yet be changing depending on what's in the bag! Hopefully NOT avocados, having read the comments!

My DD1 also got avocados but from a different branch of Morries!  Looks like there are lots of wonky avocados around at the moment.

I've not enough fruit and veg to last me for at least another week or so so won't be trying to get another bag until then as I just haven't got the fridge space.

  • Using up the last of the soup stash from the freezer for lunch today (sweet potato this time) and dinner is going to be toad in the hole with some sausages and veg from the freezer.

Ooh, just installed the app. Naturally everything has sold out already near me but I will look more seriously after the storm. We are doing as we are told and staying home today.

Loving the idea of toad in the hole - it might have to replace the Nasi Goreng option with squashed toad (sausagemeat, rather than sausages - it might be roasted veg traybake with batter added.

    Stay safe everyone!

@Suffolk_lass - check the collection times for the stores you're interested in; they put the bags for the next day on about 15 minutes later.  For Morrisons collection is between 5pm and 9pm; next day's bags go on about 9.15pm.  HTH.

Because of the storm we decided to have our dinner at lunchtime (chicken chasseur from the freezer with mash) in case the electric went off as we only have an electric cooker.  So our dinner will be what we planned for lunch - Welsh rarebit if we have power and a cheese salad sandwich if we don't!

I always used to make squashed toad in the hole when the kids were little as they weren't keen on sausages - what kid doesn't like sausages - that'll be mine!

I also used to use it to do sweet & sour and just called it sweet & sour pork balls!

Things we used to do to feed our kids and probably the same these days for anyone on a low wage.

'Squashed toad' love the name but not the picture in my head - we have several resident toads!

six crinkly apples in the fruit bowl have gone to make apple crumble, added the sultanas that were left at the bottom of a packet plus the usual cinnamon. There should be enough to freeze some portions for another day.

Ran out of gravy, had to resort to flour/marg herbs spices to thicken tonight's casserole. I actually quite liked the result so did dh, maybe I'll think twice before buying any more gravy granules.
