Rhubarb should cut through the oiliness of the mackerel - and it is a vegetable after all! Any I don't do with the mackerel I'll stew in some ginger cordial left over from Christmas.Β
Rhubarb in ginger cordial also sounds good!

No wonder you resented the watercress in your box!

I don't have any boxes or SM deliveries - I was put off forever by one at Christmas that included four calabrese broccoli that were already yellow, delivered on 23rd December, necessitating a last minute swoop of three places to get enough green veg for my Christmas guests.
These days I make do and adapt. Last night we had avocado and egg salad with a jacket potato, followed by greek-style yogurt topped with a crumbled meringue and stewed rhubarb. It was the first of this season's rhubarb from our garden and characteristically mild and delicious. Three sticks of rhubarb, one heaped teaspoon of sugar and the remnants of the water I washed it in. So simple, but so good.Β
I love the idea of rhubarb to cut through the oily fish. We don't have mackerel indoors, only when cooking outdoors and then I like to bake it stuffed with lemon zest, garlic, chilli, breadcrumbs and butter, wrapped in two layers of foil done on or in the BBQSave Β£12k in 2025 #2 I am at Β£4863.32 out of Β£6000 after May (81.05%)

Your rhubarb pud sounds delicious.ΒTea tonight is an easy Friday on toast. Scrambled eggs and DH can also have the half tin of beans left from earlier in the week. Probably fruit and cheese and crackers after that. Iβm enjoying feta at the moment. Bought it months ago. Nice and salty. Two of the apples are a bit soft now so Iβll stew them to add to porridge. I also have last night chicken bones to boil up for stock.Β6

It's been really good for me to have to plan around what's delivered rather than shopping for what I want. I've also been working out protein/carb/fat content and calories, so have probably been eating better (most days) than I have in years. I'm amazed how long the contents of the freezer have lasted (the outside freezer still has a few bits in in - cranberries, the emergency frozen turkey from xmas, chicken carcasses and wings, bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, scones and ONE pizza which I'm contemplating having on saturday! But I've been prioritising using the fresh stuff and making sure I don't waste anything (hence all the carrot soup).Β
I currently seem to have a glut of cherry tomatoes and yogurt, but I'm not sure whether there will be a milk delivery next Friday or not so I won't go overboard using it up.Β

Milkmen don't usually take bank holiday off, at least they didn't when my DH was a milkman years ago. Β Can you not ask your milkman or leave him a note?

Re Bank Holidays - I have milk delivered Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. If there is a BH due, my milkman delivers early e.g. Monday BH would deliver previous Friday. HTHBe Kind. Stay Safe. Break the Chain. Save Lives. βοΈ2025 Savings Pot Challenge: As a monthly amount, running total = Β£299.00

Last bank holiday there was no delivery, and although it said that they'd move it to the Wednesday, the order disappeared from the website. I'm certainly not going to bother him with a note as I know he's hugely stretched at the moment. It won't really matter if I don't get a delivery on Friday as I have plenty of yogurt and cherry toms which are what arrives on Friday, and I can make the milk last.Β8
