I suggest you soak the kidneys in milk for a while, it should help making the flavour milder - it works with liver!

I use ox kidney when making steak and kidney if I'm using a steak ie shin which requires long slow cooking as I find lamb kidneys break down. NB I tend not to make it into a pie to save the caloriesLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin6

Reposting a little blurb I stuck on the freezer thread last night! (not sure how that happened!)
Dinner today last night was the last of the veggie lasagne from the freezer, with a side of steamed veg - the last courgette & a few more of the Christmas veg box carrots. I'm still chuckling that the OH who supposedly despises eggplant, has now had three portions of the lasagna that has slices of grilled eggplant in it & loved it every time! Another victory for hidden veg

Happy New Year everyone!
We have almost finished the leftovers from Christmas and happy to say my freezer is almost empty so I can actually defrost it at the weekend hopefully - that was all I wanted to do all year.
Tonight we're having stuffed pasta shells using some large pasta shells we got in a hamper for our anniversary, stuffed with some ricotta I picked up yesterday and some defrosted spinach from the freezer. Will also make a tomato and pepper sauce to go with them using some leftover tomatoes from the fridge along with some roasted peppers that we also got in the hamper. Now that the freezer is almost under control, its time to start working through the cupboards.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20175 -
Some days reverse meal planning leads to delicious revelations...other days you end up eating leftover mushroom bourgignon with straight to wok noodles. Ah well, another thing out the fridge!8

Using up some veg from the fridge (and freezer) to make a Goan veg curry with rice for dinner tonight, that should pretty much use up the veg in the fridge, apart from a few carrots which will probably end up as soup at some point.
Have got some pears in the fridge which I'm intending on turning into chutney at some point. Just need to sort out a recipe where I don't need to buy anything to make it!

Leftover bits of meat (DH had most of a tapas pack of Spanish meats and cheeses - I had a slice of Iberico ham) plus a shared avocado, and an egg each and the foil sprinkles of the gammon ham. Also found two packs of hummus so we snacked the fancy one with celery, carrot and yellow pepper veg sticks and had mostly veg salad. I think we might go for a veg thing tonight - either a bake or a curry and soup for lunchSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

My new diary is here5 -
Having leftover prawn in black bean sauce from the freezer for dinner, with some boiled rice. Had to pick up some salad leaves last night as completely forgot to buy them with the weekly shop. Also managed to pick up some reduced garlic bread which I portioned up and stuck in the freezer for DH, as well as some reduced dried chickpeas and yellow lentils that I haven't been able to find for a while.
Made a couple of portions of mushroom soup at the weekend so having that for lunches over the next couple of days and then need to make some veggie soup to use up some stragglers from christmas (including the glut of potatoes that appear to never end!)Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20174
