  • What if the company you book with want to charge thousands extra for the exact same holiday. Hardly fair I’m all for helping the travel industry but why should I have to pay more for the holiday, I expect a holiday to go up but not to the kind of amounts I’m being quoted.
  • I have 2 overseas holidays booked for later in the year in July (Austria) and Sept (USA) for which the deposits have been paid. When the full amounts become due soon in May and June should I pay the full amounts in the hope that the company will refund the full amounts if they are cancelled or what should I do? We don’t want to travel anywhere for the rest of 2020. The bookings are direct with the same company and not through an agent.

So if they are proposing to retrospectively changing the terms and conditions is it only fair that people who have just paid a deposit are able to cancel free of any penalties ?
    I totally agree
Me too. We should not be expected to bail out holiday firms! I'm willing to be fair, but expect a good deal in return. For example a commitment to a 20% bonus voucher and a guarantee that the equivalent holiday will not cost more than the original booking, or your money back! Fairness works both ways!

My TUI holiday booked for mid June was around 20% more expensive for the exact same holiday in 2021.
That equated to less than £300 for both of us, although it's since been increased by another £100.
What holiday do you have booked that is £000s more than this year?
Or is it a case of £000s for a number of people or a family?
  • The flight prices have increased from 750pp to 1350pp. Family of 5. We even tried to draw back staying out the way in a much cheaper resort, taking parts of our holiday away to only find it increased even more as we then incur charges.

    Ah. OK.
Number of pax does push the price up when there are increases.

Only by applying our legal pressure can we look after our rights (something Martin has forgotten).

There has not been any legalisation in law - you are due a refund. Demand it.

Relevant demands that are breaking the law:

ABTA statement following updated Package Travel Directive (PTD) guidance

    Mark Tanzer, Chief Executive says:

“ABTA has been in urgent talks with Government ministers and officials throughout the week, as well as working with European trade associations at a European government level, to progress the asks that we set out in our letter to the Prime Minister on Monday. Today, the European Commission updated its guidance on the Package Travel Directive (PTD) in relation to customer claims refunds. It encourages customers to accept credit notes, as long as the customer is allowed to ask for a full refund, eventually, if he or she does not make use of the credit note towards a new booking. Crucially the Commission states that the credit note should be covered by appropriate insolvency protection. This is an extremely positive step and shows that the Commission recognises the strains being placed on tour operators due to Coronavirus.

“The Package Travel Directive is the legal framework on which the UK Package Travel Regulations are based, and we now need the UK Government to follow the European Commission’s lead and confirm a similar approach. This new guidance will give customers the essential assurance that they will either get a holiday or their money back, as well as providing a much needed helping hand to travel companies through these difficult and unprecedented times.”

ABTA - and their LEGALLY unlawful agents have been been keeping our money for months.

    Read it - "encourages " -  demand a refund.

This article indicates they are becoming concerned about the fallout and reputational damage from this debacle.
