If you need a tyre for the MOT, then your car is currently illegal.ElephantBoy57 said:AdrianC said:But "must be roadworthy" applies to everything, all the time, anyway. Whether there's a valid test or whether it doesn't need one because it's too new or too old. All that's being varied here is the requirement for a current test.My car is booked in next week. I just need a new tyre then it should pass.
The MOT standard for tyres is EXACTLY the same as Mr Plod's three point standard, and considerably below the sensible replacement point.3 -
a thing not mentioned , but will affect "many" people is the fact that CBTs (compulsary bike training) which must be done every 2 yrs (unless you have bike licence) have come to a basic stop , forum members on a bike group have been emailing / ringing and attempting to book , but they are all getting answers of "closed due to virus"
many many young people get bikes or scooters at 16 to get to work with the intention to get a car when they are older , many cannot afford cars orinsurance and are happy with a 125cc , bike tests can cost in excess of £700 to do

16yos are not key workers, and are not going to places of education. They should be staying home.twhitehousescat said:a thing not mentioned , but will affect "many" people is the fact that CBTs (compulsary bike training) which must be done every 2 yrs (unless you have bike licence) have come to a basic stop , forum members on a bike group have been emailing / ringing and attempting to book , but they are all getting answers of "closed due to virus"

a person aged 16 when they got first cbt may now be 18 , 20 , 22 or 24 or even older and many will be in full time jobs , often as key workersAdrianC said:

Hi guys, could anyone help me? My MOT is due 12th of April, however i assume this is about to change to 12th of October (although still showing as April on GOV website). My question is i have my MOT booked in for tomorrow with my local garage and as of now they're still open. I intended to keep it booked in unless the garage close. However am i essentially losing 6 free MOT, as this MOT if done tomorrow i am guessing will run out again 12th of April 2021? But if i left it till October and had my MOT then it would last till 12th of October 2021?
Sorry I'm just struggling to understand the clarification around this, and thanks for any help

I'd phone the garage and cancel. Free the slot up for someone else.Jack_93 said:Hi guys, could anyone help me? Do the maths 32-33 million cars in UK = over 100k MOTs per day. Come October you will have the April cars and the October cars all wanting MOTs. ie over 200k MOTs. I wouldn't want the hassle.
I saw this news yesterday and still booked it in for next Wednesday (fingers crossed they are still open) we are a three vehicle family soon to be 4 vehicles and I like the MOTs spread throughout the year as much as possible.0 -

The Dept. Of Transport offers this:
Example: Your vehicle’s MOT was due to expire on 3 April 2020.
This will automatically be extended to 3 October 2020. You will need to get your MOT by this date.
I can’t find any info that specifically answers your question.
It’s possible??? that the 6-months hiatus will not affect the due date of your next, but one, MOT.
For example, ... if your MOT is due April 2020 and you wait the full 6-months until October 2020 your new certificate will still run from April 2020 to April 2021,...not October 2021.
In effect you could be faced with needing to have 2 MOT’s within the space of 6-months. Who knows?...I certainly don’t.
It really needs The Dept. Of Transport to clarify.

Is there a good reason why they didn't bother with actually taking their test in the last 2-8 years?twhitehousescat said:

And, no, bike tests don't cost £700 to do. The full Mod2 on-road test costs £75, the Mod1 off-road is £15.50, theory is £23 - and renewal CBTs are usually about £100.
The rest of the £700 is instruction... and if somebody's been riding for years and still needs over £600 of lessons, then frankly...
