Grant Shapps - 6mo MOT extension for all tests due after 30/3/20

My partner’s car is due it’s MOT on the 29th but he cancelled the appointment he made on Monday because I’m in a vulnerable category & he didn’t want to endanger me. We also thought there would be some news about exemptions & felt it safer to hang fire for a few days. It’s very unfair he won’t be able to drive his car because he didn’t want to endanger me, his MOT is one day earlier than the exemption date plus he was following government guidelines to be particularly cautious when living with a vulnerable person - we’re both going to be punished for this as a result! Why didn't the government set the exemption date from the day they started to advise social distancing?0

Totally agree. My MOT expired on 29th and I had it booked in for 28th, last week I became a bit anxious and managed to move it forward to the 21st, so it is all done, but I have sympathy for you.AmLiTie said:My partner’s car is due it’s MOT on the 29th but he cancelled the appointment he made on Monday because I’m in a vulnerable category & he didn’t want to endanger me. Not the case though as many garages that do repairs are closing or have closedKimJongUn88 said:He goes onto say "However, you must still keep your car in a roadworthy condition and garages will remain open if you need repairs."
May as well just get the MOT done.0 -

All that's being varied here is the requirement for a current test.My car is booked in next week. I just need a new tyre then it should pass.So I dont need to bother with the MOT now, great stuff.
looks like it, you may still be able to get a tyre though, local tyre depot was open when i went past todayElephantBoy57 said:AdrianC said:But "must be roadworthy" applies to everything, all the time, anyway. Won't there be a huge rush for MoT's all at once in 6 month's time now? Plus maybe some MoT centres won't survive 6 months with no business.

It'll also be interesting to see if the new MOT ceases 12 months after the expired one .EdGasketTheSecond said:Won't there be a huge rush for MoT's all at once in 6 month's time now? Plus maybe some MoT centres won't survive 6 months with no business.

My thoughts exactly, MOT due 18 April, just booked it in for 1st April to avoid a scrum in 6 months time.EdGasketTheSecond said:Won't there be a huge rush for MoT's all at once in 6 month's time now? Plus maybe some MoT centres won't survive 6 months with no business.0 -
I have a car with no current MOT and is SORN. I'm going to be working on it in the next few weeks and was planning on getting an MOT for it once it's in a fit state. Will garages still be doing MOT's in this scenario?0

Nobody knows. You may have to do some phoning around to find someone who is open.dannyrst said:I have a car with no current MOT and is SORN. It's a 6 month extension to your existing MOT date - I.e. your MOT deadline is 2nd April this becomes 2nd October. Fred's MOT deadline is 1st May which becomes 1st Nov.EdGasketTheSecond said:Won't there be a huge rush for MoT's all at once in 6 month's time now? So there won't be a huge rush because people will have different MOT deadlines spread out just as they do now.2
