Buying a house feels somewhat like shopping for a daily necessity....roof over ones head and all that
The staff of the NHS would consider staying alive more of a priority. As it they that you would rely on to treat you. That's if there's both the staff and a ventilator available. Without both your chances of survival are zero.
  • We are supposed to be exchanging & completing Wednesday , we are moving to a park home which is fully furnished so I basically have an empty house other than boxes , absolute nightmare if it doesn’t happen . Not sure how people can say it isn’t essential when you are thus far down the line ! 😢
You haven't exchanged, so a lot will depend on the other party's situation. But moving will most certainly be classed as essential, as it is in every other country on lockdown. Not doing so opens an enormous can of worms where some people end up with nowhere to live, while others pay two rents or one rent and a mortgage and others still lose deposits.

There are far bigger issues for the government to solve right now than re-writing the property renting/selling lawbooks.
We were told last Tuesday by our solicitor due to current circumstances we had to exchange & complete on the same day , we are not in a chain only our buyer and us and our buyers mortgage money was requested last week , so just hoping all
    will be ok 🤞

Buying could equally be renting. Try self-isolating on the streets or a shelter...
  • I am due to exchange and complete next week, and I will continue to proceed providing my solicitor allows it. We have our own van and moving into an empty property around the corner so we will not come into contact with anybody during our move so don’t see why this isn’t achievable.

I agree. However I fancy my chances more if I can isolate in my house rather than on the street....swings and roundabouts

Well IF it is an essential transaction why am I seeing loads of threads saying solicitors are advising to exchange and complete on the same day instead of with a timed delay?

One person's essential transaction is not another person's essential transaction. Some people need to plan and therefore specify their solicitor incorporate an agreed amount of time between exchange and completion.

I suspect if you have the flexibility to exchange and complete with not planning in advance, then you are one of the people that should probably stay home.

My partner works for the NHS and we are due to exchange on our first home this week, we need to move as the landlord has been given notice. So should an essential worker who needs to move home be an exception?

Because of the very reason you've literally just re-quoted. I.e. is essential - get it done without delay.
