Credit card fraud yet again

Well, this is the 4th time in about 6 years my tesco credit card has been compromised as hotel stays around the country are showing on my latest bill. I am careful with my details and only buy from reputable sites so for the life of me I don’t know how anyone has been able to stay in hotels with my card details. Even worse, I have tried to get in touch with Tesco and just about managed to block the card via an app (no way of doing it any other way) but have still not heard back from Tesco regarding the bill I have for stuff I didn’t authorise. Looking at all the transactions, it looks like someone visiting from the US has stayed all over the country and used it the last time buying internet in flight time from an American company.
I’m at a loss what to do because Tesco don.’t seem in a hurry to rectify, or even try and track down the villian who did this. Should I contact the hotels and see if they can find out the culprit ? I need proof that this wasn’t myself.

Its just not good enough for Tesco to have such poor security. I will change my credit card company.0

The breach is likely to be close to home, either electronic or human.

Whether or not they choose to pursue the matter to find out who cost them money (not your money of course, once refunded) is up to them and they won't share any details with you....4 -

Go to text alerts on tesco and set it up so that as soon as a little amount is spent you will get an alert.If the fraud is close to you, you dont want the consequences to harm you because in a mud or shirt splash, the mud and Shirt might stick to you !

Not sure what you are meaning with mud and shirt, but I agree, I think it best to change my credit card provider. The reason I chose Tesco initially was because of the club card points on the spending but that is no longer worth the powder and shot as it used to be far more generous. I also had my Natwest bank account hacked a few years ago too so perhaps using the cards in the wrong shop with a dishonest worker. I doubt this current fraud is local as the statement shows that the persons last transaction was in flight for a US internet facility. If anyone can recommend a decent credit card that earns good cash back etc I will be grateful. I always pay my card off in full every month, but obviously not this time.0 -
Not sure it's really an emergency as such (especially in the context of all the genuine emergencies in the world right now) but it's an inconvenience that should be sorted out promptly - remind them of their obligations imposed by the FCA, i.e.In most cases the bank must refund the payment without undue delay and by the end of the business day following the day on which it became aware of the problem, unless it has reasonable grounds for suspecting that you have acted fraudulently.

Just a thought.......You say that this has happened mutiple times and that you are careful where/how you shop, online? This is great but....Have you tried making sure the computer devices you use have not been compromised in some way and they are not the source of the leak of your details?3

Just because you think a site is reputable does not stop them getting compromised. Think British Airways and many other household names who have had the same issues. Never mind the fact that many retailers do not check staff for any criminal or financial history.
Blame the retailers for not fully checking details. But than again would the public be happy that no retailer would take a card transaction from only the card holder (so no paying for anyone else) or only sending to the account address.
Card providers are not the police. They do not go to find out who the person is. The retailer is the one that has all the details of who, where etc. They are the one's that need to involve the police as they are out of pocket. Do they? From experience NO.
Please be aware that banks are under great pressure at the moment. Staff off sick, more people calling in.
You will not be out of pocket.
Swapping card providers might not help. It could just be some local retailer you use your card at, that has a less than honest employee working there.Life in the slow lane2
