Judgement of claimant received, even though submitted claim form, what to do?

I've received a judgement for claimant for £268.86 to be paid within 30 days, it says its due to the fact I have not replied to the claim form, which I did via E-mail admittedly the last day before it expired, but within the time period and via E-mail which was as per instructions on the claim form.
What can I do?
There is a phone number on the claimant letter, should I phone the court and discuss with them?
Thanks!

What? Have you read the NEWBIES thread? Did you do the Acknowledgement of Service (AoS) online via the MCOL portal?

Sounds like you didn't, and didn't file a defence, therefore the claimant got a default judgment. The amount sounds like:

    £100 PCN
£60 debt collection charge (abuse of process)
    £50 solicitor fee
    £25 filing fee
    £25 hearing fee?
    £8.86 interest
  • Thanks for the reply.
So, I did the AOS via MCOL then I received the claim form, then I submitted the claim form, then things went quiet for a few months and then today we received this.

    That doesn't make sense.
You simply cannot file an Acknowledgement of Service before receiving the Claim Form. It is not possible. For a start, until you have a Claim Form, you have no Claim Number.

    Please tell us:
    1) the Issue Date on your Claim Form,
    2) the date when you filed an Acknowledgment of Service,
    3) the date when you filed a Defence.

All those dates can be found on your MCOL Claim History.

In fact, it might be a good idea to copy and paste you MCOL Claim History here.

Apologies I think I am getting confused. The last thing I received and submitted was the direct questionnaire NA180 and that was done on the 23rd January 2020 since then we received nothing until today when we received the 'Judgement for Claimant' (in default).
Prior to this, we did something on moneyclaim.gov.uk I can't seem to get access and login now though.
The issue date on the claim form was 11th October 2019. I filed the defence when I submitted the claim form, at the same time I believe.
I can't find my logins anywhere, it's sending me to government gateway but I doubt I used my SA login details or my business login details.
EDIT: I got a letter back from BW Legal saying they had received my response to the claim from the court and that they intend to proceed with the matter, that was before I received the direct questionnaire the date between said letter and the questionnaire is 29th November 2019 to 16th January 2020, on the 20th December 2019 I received a package of files which included my defence their reply saying it was a copy and paste job, and an 'offer' from them for just £180.

Well without those dates it is difficult, if not impossible, to understand what has gone wrong.

Have you checked the claim numbers are the same ?

    Otherwise, call the court.

Yeah sorry, I will try to figure it out - just ridiculous this, the time I've spent screwing around with this stuff whilst building a business, fantastic way for the government to support its people, continue letting these companies screw us over. Fact of the matter is I paid £20k for my parking space, they shouldn't be allowed to do this, but hey ho.
/Rant over - thanks for your help Keith, much appreciated.
As much as I don't want to, if I pay the bill do I need to get in touch with the courts or something to ensure the CCJ isn't put on my credit file?

What does the judgment say you are in default of - not returning the N180?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD
  • What does the judgment say you are in default of - not returning the N180?
Yes, it says 'You have not replied to the claim form'
