The flights were cancelled start of May and I received vouchers which I rejected and so like others on this thread I requested a full refund under EU 261 which has been refused. I have complained to the CAA and started the chargeback process !
I assume if Visa apply the chargeback then the voucher will become null & void but if AirTransat dispute the chargeback and succeed, are they entitled to withdraw the voucher completely ?
if and that's a massive, massive IF they do dispute it and win, the next step is a Section 75 claim
I highly doubt the credit card companies wants to pay you or us back when by UK law its down to Air Transat pay (by chargeback)
I have had the majority of my money back via Chargeback, so I won't be using my vouchers anyway.
Air Transat want you/us to claim via our Travel Insurance, again that's Air Transat ducking out of their responsibility.0 -

This is what Transat's message said...
"If you want a refund, it is possible to void the credit. Your reservation will become 100% non-refundable and we will then send you a proof of cancellation so that you can file a claim with your travel insurance."
Why claim on your travel Insurance (will you have to pay any Excess ??)
That's what Air Transat want you to do, so they avoid their responsibility in paying you what you are entitled to under UK law.
A FULL REFUND
First option is a Chargeback, then if that fails (it won't) is a Section 75 against your credit card
Good Luck

Hi folks,
My flight to Vancouver from Gatwick was also cancelled and a voucher was emailed to me. I haven't used that voucher and I am quite upset that Air Transat doesn't take responsibility of the cancellation. I want full refund; tried calling/ emailing them (you know the story). I appreciate if you guys tell me what I should do. How can I get my money back?
Thank you very much for your time guys.

Fara,
best bet is Twitter or Facebook, they will ask you to DM themselves, (looks like they are being helpful, far from it)
they will tell you that a Refund is out of the question via DM (you will need this for your chargeback)
then put a claim in via your Credit card for a charge back, most do it via an online form but follow it up with all the details including your contact details via email. then wait my chargeback took about 4-6 weeks as they have a huge backlog for goods paid for but not received. they will need all your details such as when you paid for the flights, how much etc.
if and its a massive IF Air Transat disputes the chargeback, the next step is a Section 75 claim aginaist your credit card company as they are liable.
so its in their interests for the chargeback as that comes from AIr Transat's purse rather than your credit card company's.
Good Luck, and report back any updates (some of us on this thread have been paid out now)

Don’t even get me started on Air Transat!...
the experience my sister and I have endured has been utterly appalling and, it is still ongoing.
My sister emigrated to Canada 3 years ago and our mum had flights booked for May/June to fly from the UK to visit her. Sadly, mum died suddenly in February and we contacted Air Transat to let them know and to cancel her flight. Air Transat’s bereavement policy is beyond a joke and, as we weren’t prepared to forego the £250 cancellation fee we decided not to cancel and pursue with mums insurance provider instead. This was just before COVID took hold and, with lots of other things for us to think about/deal with (not being able to have a funeral for one!) we forgot about the flights. We then got an email from Air Transat to say they had cancelled mums flights due to COVID... brilliant! We didn’t have to think about it any further, or so we thought! That is, until now due to the fact that Air Transat are point blank refusing to issue a refund and insist that a credit valid for 24 months is acceptable. Well, it isn’t as our mum isn’t here to use it! They have had 3 copies of her death certificate already and are requesting another so that they can transfer credit to her beneficiary, of which there are 3.I have tried chargeback via mums credit card as this is how the flights were booked but so far, to no avail. To be honest, I am now so exhausted by it all that I can’t be bothered with the hassle but, it’s the principle and more importantly it is for mum.
any advice anyone is able to offer would be greatly appreciated.0 -

I’ve completed all the info they requested but not heard a peep, that was almost 3 months ago now. Maybe I’m being impatient though?!...0
