Harry Chown - thanks so much, I am just sending a second e mail to TR outlining the very useful information you have supplied
I paid £6804 for a package holiday for our family of 4 to attend a wedding in  Australia in  April of this year   - son and hubby both work for the police so their leave has been cancelled by their force pending any troubles which might break out in the coming weeks so we wouldn't be able to commit to another holiday yet anyway and I doubt my 2 sons aged 28 and 29 would want to go on  a "normal" holiday with their parents anyway!
just as an aside what I was wondering if all else fails and TR refuse to refund us- I paid on my credit card - could I potentially claim a charge back for the costs ?   any help or advise on that matter would be appreicated :)

Hi All I have a package holiday booked with Travel Republic to Cyprus on the 6th July. So far I have only paid £182 deposit. The second instalment of £680  is  in 9 days.
I just want to cancel as the FCO states we can't fly there. Do I have to paid the second instalment just to get a refund as implied on website. Or should I just refused payment. And cut my losses with the deposit. Have tried calling them but they are not taking calls now
    Any advice??

  • I'm sure everyone has done this already but on the Support Pages of Travel Republic this is the answer to the question " Am I ATOL Protected

    "Am I ATOL protected?

All bookings placed through Travel Republic are protected as detailed below:

    Package Holidays

All of the flight inclusive package holidays on our website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme.

A Package Holiday is defined as a pre-arranged combination of at least two of the following components when sold or offered for sale at an inclusive price and when the service covers a period of more than twenty four hours or includes overnight accommodation: (a) transport; (b) accommodation; (c) other tourist services not ancillary to transport or accommodation and accounting for a significant proportion of the package.

On all Package Holiday bookings, your money is ATOL protected, meaning that you will be able to continue with your holiday or suitable alternative holiday or receive a refund of the amount paid to us in the unlikely event of our insolvency or the insolvency of one or more of your service travel providers.

    Flights

We sell three different types of flights, which are all protected. The sum refunded will be the cost of the flight itself up to a maximum claim of £2000 per passenger. Card payment and agency transaction fees (both of which are relatively small incidental costs) are outside the scope of the scheme and will not be refunded.

Scheduled flights: all scheduled flights available on our website are protected via an insurance scheme arranged at the time of booking. We will claim a refund from the designated insurance company and pass this on to you. Maximum claim £2000 per passenger.

Low Cost flights: all low cost flights available on our website are protected via an insurance scheme arranged at the time of booking. We will claim a refund from the designated insurance company and pass this on to you. Maximum claim £2000 per passenger.

Charter flights: all charter operators whose flights are available on our website hold ATOL licences. The charter flights are protected via the ATOL scheme operated by the Civil Aviation Authority ("CAA"). Refunds are provided by the CAA direct to you.

For customers who are already abroad at the time of the failure only: where a replacement return flight is provided free of charge then no claim arises, alternatively, where no replacement flight is provided any claim is limited to the lower of the original price paid for the flight and the actual price paid for the replacement flight back to the UK. Maximum claim £2000 per passenger.

    Hotels

All hotel bookings are protected. You will be offered the option of transferring monies to be credited against another hotel booking or receiving a refund.

    Other bookings

All other products sold on this site are also protected. You will be offered the option of transferring monies to be credited against an alternative booking (where one is available) or receiving a refund.

Am I protected if Travel Republic becomes insolvent?

You are protected if you buy a Flight Plus or Package holiday from us. Travel Republic holds ATOL 10581. We are also a Member of ABTA which means you have the benefit of ABTA’s assistance and Code of Conduct."

I think patience is the answer, as Harrychown has already said, this is a long road but, I feel, the law and conditions indicate that we are protected

Andrew - I| have received the same - I have told them that a voucher towards another holiday is not an option for us as we were travelling to Australia for a wedding and also that my husband and son both work for the Police Service and have been put on notice that annual leave is likely to be cancelled if emergency powers are brought in and also to cover staff shortages - so we don't know when we would even be able to take a holiday in the near future - plus we just want our money back TR keep telling me they will try to get back the money for our accommodation and flights - but I know there is no way they would have paid out that cash to suppliers yet - I think they are hoping that if they keep saying it will take a long time to get a refund, I'l give up - but at over £7000 paid to them which they ahve had in full since May 2019 - I am not going to give up !

I too have had another email from TR.  Slightly changed from the last one … if it’s a package holiday then a credit note will be issued.  If accommodation only (which mine was) it says “As we are acting as an agent on your behalf, we will endeavour to obtain a refund from the supplier and we will be in touch with next steps. Given the enormity of the situation, this process will take longer than normal and we appreciate your patience during this time.“ so not even the promise of a credit note? Wondering whether to try claiming on insurance yet or wait for next steps from TR.

    Hi again sorry.
The first 2 of my 5 bookings to a hotel in Sharm el Sheikh with TR were cancelled.
I spoke to an agent on the live chat and told her I was already in Sharm, in another hotel, and was not travelling from the UK.  (the hotel I am in is 3 star and the other 5 star and is  really nice)
She said she would see what she could do, but the live chat seems to be taken off.
In my bookings, my 2 cancelled bookings now no longer say cancelled, and are exactly the same as the 3 which have not been
I rang the hotel yesterday and they say they don't have a booking for me for 26 - 31 March, so I don't know if it has been cancelled or not.

  • My flight was cancelled 14th March to Lanzarote, less than 24 hours before we were due to fly out for a weeks holiday. The whole package was booked through Travel Republic. I've also received a txt informing me to contact my travel insurer. I previously had txt from Jet 2 but when I contacted Jet 2 they were unable to refund me direct, said they had to pay back to travel republic. I also tried to contact accommodation in Lanzarote via  e mail then contacted accommodation agency provider to see could I rebook but they also returned funds back to travel republic.I contacted the transfer provider who also said they would send money back to Travel Republic So why am still expected to go through my travel insurance. Its a disgrace, My other holiday booked by another travel company we were due to fly 15th April. has offered to refund in full.I have also sent a nasty e mail to Travel Republic, as the first one came back I hope they receive this one enough enough
