"If the wider public is complacent about the virus harming only disabled and older people, they’re less likely to be vigilant of their responsibility to help contain it, through simple measures such as regular hand-washing. This goes for the medical profession, too. Early reports warned that the “weakest NHS patients” could be denied lifesaving support if ventilators need to be rationed in the event of a severe coronavirus outbreak."

"Medics spoke out amid frustration over what one said was the government’s “dishonest spin” that the health service was well prepared for a major pandemic outbreak."

Scary, but worth pointing out that prior to publishing this article, the author appears to be best known for publishing a book on Star Wars and 'working in Silicon Valley, designing and marketing products to hundreds of millions of customers in the entertainment, finance and media indutries'

OP  what plans have you put in action?
    How resilient are they?
Are you or your wife feeling unwell yet?
Are you washing your hands regularly for more than 20 secs?
Have got supplies of pain relief, soap, tissues, jigsaw puzzles, books, box sets, etc ready for when the peak hits in 10 -14 weeks time?
Are you sure any visitors to your home are washing their hands, and taking precautions so not to pass it on to you and your wife?
    Are you self isolating yet?

Update:  "  Brazil president Bolsonaro reportedly tests positive, and Spain declares state of emergency

The positive test comes after Bolsonaro’s press secretary was found to have the disease following a trip to the US.

Bolsonaro dined with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday night and videos and photos, showed the press secretary, Bolsonaro and Trump all in close proximity. “I’m not concerned,” Trump told reporters on Thursday.

Bolsonaro has downplayed the crisis. On Wednesday, he said “Other flu's kill more than this” and has also called concern over coronavirus “oversized”.

However, contrary to  Bolsonaro's assertions about other flu's, the death toll of the global coronavirus pandemic has now passed 5,000 since the virus was first identified in December, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins university. The interactive map which shows the number of infections reported around the world, reports 5,065 deaths so far, out of 136,929 confirmed cases. That is about four times the death rate of "other flu's".

They should be trying now - without going mad - to ensure that they stock up with  sufficient in their store cupboards to see then through a couple of weeks  without having to go out.
If they need more when ill, then they put in an online order from a supermarket, with insructions to just leave the food on the doorstep as they are self-isolating.
If they aren't internet savvy they get someone who is (you for example ?) to put in an order for them.

Well its the same for many when they are ill.
You seem to expect someone to come up with an idiots guide with all the answers for all scenarios.

    What?
If they're not inclined to at least try to help themselves where they can with simplifying so simple, then all hope is lost!

Regarding the money, we've always bought things on offer and reduced tins and packets so that we had something to fall back on during times of terrible weather or financial hardship. Much more affordable than buying full price!

(Note: absolutely they should have offers of help, such as doing an online shop for them if they can't do it themselves. But taking a sensible precaution if they can afford it is a reasonable expectation.)

I don't know who's told then this but it doesn't sound right to me at all.
My understanding - from watching the government broadcast yesterday - is that If they think they are infected then they should self-isolate at home for seven days.
They shouldn't take themselves to hospital off their own bat - they risk infecting patients and staff.
They should contact 111 or the emergency services if their symptoms become severe (e.g they are having difficulties breathing).

They can't afford to stockpile any food
They have always bought for from the 'corner shop' paying cash and don't even have a credit or debit card,
They only have s bank account because the local post office closed a few years ago !!
They do not trust home delivery
He is virtually immobile and she has a heart problem
    And no internet
    They are set in their.ways
    Which worries us........
