Hi, we don't drive in our household, my husband is visually impaired and I have anxiety so supermarket shopping has gone from tricky in normal times to near impossible right now. Queuing triggers my anxiety and we have to both shop together to manage the bags etc so before all this happened we used to have at least the main shopping delivered. However, I've looked at all the supermarkets online to find there are no delivery slots(I even queued online with Morrisons!) People must be getting slots because the vans are beetling about but I can't see is how to get a delivery slot?
    Can anyone help, please?

  • Not a Facebook person & never used forum before but getting frustrated!!!! Have Covid-19 but still at home, not over 70 and condition being managed by GP. Live alone, with no family nearby, all friends and elderly neighbours following govt guidelines to stay at home. Local shop been great to date but want to Grocery shop incl specific dietery requirements. Can't do Sainsbury as updated email on nectar but not online grocery store & can't amend/won't let me reregister. Tried to get online slot on Tesco and nothing for 1-2weeks so tried ringing helpline to get me on priority list but after going through all the steps, just when you think you're getting passed through, it cuts you off instead!!! Can't find an online chat or anything similar--any ideas??

Have you tried Iceland? You'd need to register with them first then check if they deliver to your area, but they do seem to have more available slots than the others. Or look at Morrisons or M & S who both do a range of Food Boxes. You would have to specifically search for 'Morrisons Food Boxes' or 'M & S Food Boxes' not their usual websites.

I think your best chance of getting your shopping to to think of other ways around this because supermarkets are prioritising the most vulnerable who will have received a letter and despite increasing capacity as quickly as they can are simply swamped at the moment. For most of us how we shopped before is unlikely to be how we can shop now so try thinking out the box
Could you visit smaller local stores rather than the big supermarkets?
Have you got friends, family or neighbours who are able to give you a lift?  Or even a taxi if not too far away.  If you go mid evening there are not many, if any, queues.
There are loads of local support groups been set up with volunteers helping those who can't leave the house or need some help so check facebook to see what is happening in your local area
There are also quite a few grocers, butchers etc delivering food, not just supermarkets but again, it depends where you live.
Again, a local facebook group will be able to help you with recommendations.
There are plenty of people in a similar situation to yourselves so hopefully you'll be find a solution.

Do you have friends or relatives close by that are able to get slots if you do then ask them to add your shop on to theirs. Most Supermarkets have stopped the maximum total item restriction although some items may still be limited,

We've been lucky getting slots, but you have to check randomly throughout the day multiple times and not expect to get one for at least several days.
We've found zero available with the main supermarkets, but have gotten 3 with Iceland.
They are booking no more than three days ahead at any time and releasing slots during the day.

Try your local farm shops, they don't have the queues and have a good range of produce; how about also supermarket petrol stations for other food/non food items?

If you do Facebook, see if there is a local support group for you area - look on https://covidmutualaid.org/
Obviously it depends where you are, but my local group has lists of lcal small businesses (butchers, greengrocers, convenience stores and wholesalers) that will deliver, as well as individuals both offering and asking for help.
Or try on you local council website to see what support is available
