  • Finally I tried to claim with my insurance, a Leisure guard policy I got through the MSE site. They are underwritten by Allianz Global Assist who have replied to say the policy states that you are not covered for claims arising from prohibitive regulations from the government of any country. This seems to be contrary to what the MSE table says about Leisureguard policies.

I too have had the same response from Allianz Global Assist (through LeisureGuard) and as you say this is in complete contrast to what the MSE still says today and also what it said on 29th Feb when I bought the policy.

I accept that it's entirely my fault for not checking the conditions of the policy and perhaps wrongly trusted that the MSE site was correct, but this is quite frustrating espcially as the MSE site is still reporting that the LeisureGuard policies cover cancellations due to FCO advice.

Keen to hear if anyone else is in the same position.

Ryanair have refused a refund as I ''Missed My Flight''. Well of course I did, but you gave me no chance to cancel or re-book my flight as:
    1. You never answered a single email, phone call or DM on Social Media in 13 days prior to flying.
    2. You prevented my unchecking in to cancel my booking, so I couldn't change it.
Now they've kept the fare and refuse point blank that there was a valid reason for missing the flight to Barcelona which is shut down and would have been a significant risk to me and an unnecessary reason for travel.
Congratulations Ryanair you surpassed even your own reputation with this scam.

My family were meant to fly on our multipackage holiday booked through Travelsoon on Saturday.  They have only offered me a credit note and my insurance through bank with axa have declined my claim on the reason that the travel company should issue a full refund.  But the travel company are telling me they only have to give me a credit note not a refund! I know that Ryan air has reimbursed them the money for the flights but they are refusing to reimburse me.

I have been told my mini cruise has been cancelled and I have been sent a credit note. I am over 70 with diabetes type 2 and do not wish to book another cruise holiday as advised by the government.  They say 'no cash alternative will be offered'. Is this a fact as they have cancelled I assumed I would get my money back.

Yes, it seems to be the default position of many companies.
  • I have an 8 bedroom cottage booked for May 9-14th in north Wales which is booked with SYKES COTTAGES. The 4 day break is costing £2,000 and Sykes has now cancelled the holiday due to the corona virus travel restrictions. They have refused all their customers (of which I’ve been told is 5,000) full money refund and only offering a replacement date which is £900 more or a credit note.  Is this lawful.
    My actions so far
    1. I have started a section 75 as paid by credit card with  M & S
    2. Applied a claim to the insurance company
    3. Joined “Sykes Cottages Poor Customer group” on face book which a lawyer has agreed to fight to get us all a full refund which is ‘The Consumer lawyer blog’ on Facebook
🤞one of Theres 3 options  hopefully get us a full refund. Can you advise and any other actions I can take
    Thanks

Inform numbers 1 and 2 about each other and number 3. The credit card and insurance companies will ask if you are pursuing other methods and one will have to come first.  I've no idea where a facebook lawyer comes in, except to say: tread carefully. A reputable solicitor doesn't need to be conducting business on facebook. It's an easy way to capture people's personal details and you've already given away your identity on here to any party that might be interested. Name, where you've booked, what credit card provider you have plus your Facebook profile.
  • Apologies if this has already been covered,
I have a package holiday booked through Onthebeach for first week in August going to Spain. I’ve paid deposits but additional payments are now due, I’ve asked to cancel and lose deposits but only response I’ve had off them is to cancel I will need to pay flights and transfers as they are non refundable but this is vast majority of my holiday cost and if not they will chase me up in court! Is this still relevant now FCO have advised against travel indefinitely? What I’m worried about is paying all of this and then getting into a massive hole of not getting a refund or getting forced to accept vouchers?? Surely considering the circumstances I shouldn’t have to just blindly continue payments and hope for the best!
    Thanks you!

It's up to you, but if the terms you've agreed to permit them to charge you the flight and transfer costs in the event of you cancelling (as well as losing your deposit), it would seem rash to do so.

You are best off continuing payments.  If the holiday does get cancelled (and August is a long way off, so it may well be ok) then you'll be entitled to a full refund.  Yes that may possibly be in vouchers but if you'd rather lose your deposit and other costs, that's something you'll have to weigh up.

It's a known loss versus a credit note, voucher or refund.  That's your call.

Thank you for the reply, should I try paying remaining balance via credit card or will I be covered the same if I pay through debit?
    Thanks again
