Our two different experiences were: Santander closure of RS15 via "chat" took place same day via App and money transferred on the same day. Online "chat" closure took 3 days and money transferred into current account (CA) after the same 3 days. Both transfers included interest. Remember to cancel SO to old RS15 and also wait 2 working days before opening a new RS16. Account numbers change. Despite T&C`s saying you can only add money using a SO from your Santander CA it`s ok to do an immediate first deposit using an internal transfer from your CA. Also when setting up 11 monthly SO`s have your first SO a month after account opening date. This is not a typical calendar month RS where you feed it on the 1st of the month.
There is no need to wait 2 working days from closure to open a new RS16, as soon as closure of RS15 confirmed and funds transferred to current account you can open a new account and send first payment......
Super tip, works as you say, thank you! My RS15 got closed within a couple of hours of me calling them this lunchtime. I have now opened and funded RS16.

Not wanting to get into discussing specific details of deviation(s) has anyone who deviated from Santander reg saver T+C subsequently closed it prematurely without anything being said by Santander or otherwise about having deviated from T+C ?
Still waiting for Santander to respond to my closure request. Did they say anything to you?
I used the chat bot in the app to request closure at 6pm yesterday.  Got a response at 11pm.  Account now closed and interest credited to my current account this morning.  (I emptied the account yesterday.)
I requested via the chat bot on 3/10 and this hasn't been actioned yet
I gave up waiting and rang them this afternoon to close the account

Variable monthly interest rate apparently which is a plus in two ways: 1) because it may go up when conditions allow for this, and 2) because interest is paid monthly rather than annually, which is much more often the norm for most regular savings accounts.

However: Only available to existing customers / members or residents in Wales it says a little lower down.
  • Are there any savings accounts only available to residents in England ?

Yes I'm sure there are, but that wasn't the question.
Swansea are limiting new applications to Welsh residents.
Are there any savings accounts that specifically limit applications just from English residents ?

    I suspect there arent.

I don't see a problem with postcode restrictions but I do see a problem with restricting a whole nation.
  • The problem for me is it's discriminatory in nature. There are English residents closer to Swansea than some Welsh residents.

    Yes.

Every English building society that restricts access to their savings account via local postcode!

    For example, Suffolk Building Society

"Be an existing member or a new member resident in postcode areas IP, NR, CO, CM, CB or PE"

All of these postcodes are in England!

So if you live in Scotland or Wales, or any other country, you cannot apply.

And their rate of 2.75% is higher than Swansea too
