Their programs will probably just look at how long your existing account has been open. I'd call them - a human will be able to see that you have had accounts without interrupt.

Mrs RP has just told me she might be a customer of YBS, maybe from a long-forgotten Egg account?  Worth investigating!

Remember it's the 20th tomorrow and we all know what happens at 1400 on the 20th of every other month....

Virgin HBC 12 and hopefully a jump up to 2%

Me thinks 2% is not enough. I'm using  my HB accounts as easy access from August.  I have little savings earning less than 1.75%

See also report on BBC that BoE may increase rates by 0.5% in August.

Same here. 

Appears we may be being penalised for closing poorer, unbeneficial accounts. 

I have sent a secure message, as currently on holiday, so see what they come back with. 

Won't lose any sleep over it though, especially as a variable rate.

If they were to drop the rate / if you could find a better rate elsewhere, you could close the YBS account without penalty. Until either of these (unlikely, IMO) events happens, your money might as well earn 5%, no?

I would point out to them that your account holding pattern WOULD qualify you for continuous society Membership and voting rights (subject to holding £100 or more in the case of voting rights) and that you don't see why you should not also qualify for an account targetting loyal Members

Don't see YBS regular saver being variable as any disadvantage. Interest rates are only going to go up over the next year.
