I believe Gers is referring to "existing Society members". The wording is slightly ambiguous, but you are able to open up to 3 "Special Occasions" RS (SORS) and not live in one of those postcodes. First, you become a member by saving £100 in an "eligible to all" savings account eg the "Hi Five Saver" account (open by post, ID required). Then you apply for SORS by post. You can download account opening forms. Then you can set up SO`s to fund the SORS. Being able to open 3 SORS, make up to 4 withdrawals a year and the fact that this is not a term account and you are able to continue to save after 12 months persuaded me it was worth the hassle of doing all the above!

Has anyone safely closed the Hi Five Saver account after the Darlington SORS accounts are open? I've not dared yet but I can't see how it would lose me the SORS.0

Hi Folks,
I have changed the following items on page 1 of this thread for this weekend's update.
- Ecology Building Society Regular Saver interest rate increased to 1.4% this week (it was 1.3% when I checked last week)
- Darlington BS Special Occasion Saver terms and conditions updated to show existing members can open this account (in addition to locals)
- Swansea BS Monthly Regular Saver interest rate increased to 1.75% from 1st August 2022
I will do the next update next weekend.

Paper documents (five pages) and online access codes sent by post. Even when one account is held the same paper documents (five pages) need to be sent each time an additional account can be opened. Not onerous and friendly staff. A passbook came with the RS which suggests that it will have to be returned when closing the account.0 -
Anyone know if PREF REG SAV is what HSBC calls a regular saver that has matured?
Trying to work out if I can withdraw the money yet, or if that will risk sacrificing the interest...0 -

I think from memory thats what the RS was called before it matured. I'd play it safe and wait until the interest actually gets paid before doing anything

I did what Where_are_we suggested back in November 2021, I was not a member or a local.
After opening a High five saver with £100 I then opened 3 Special Occasions accounts, these have been running now for 9 or 10 months. And the interest rate increased to 1.95% about a month ago.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.1 -

If you can see that the interest is part of the balance - then off you go. This question pops up every few years.
