The Ecology Building Society RS is still available at 1.75% pa variable, up to £250 per month and unlimited in time. I opened mine in 2017 to avail myself of their facility to deposit by direct debit, paying in £50 per month. I'm now increasing this to £250. Two withdrawals per year (unlimited). Third withdrawal leads to closure.
I just wish they did online applications. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of a snail mail application - especially if they decide that they can't identify us and decide they need further documentation in which case Mrs Phil would need to get a certified copy of her passport or driving licence.
I posted my application this morning.  They should be able to verify me electronically, but if they start wanting certified copies I won't bother responding to them.
I applied for that Monmouthshire Saver Plus yesterday, and am still waiting to hear back from them
I was checking their site and came across the Christmas Saver (Issue 2) - 1.55% and £1-£1000 a month - has this mean mentioned on here / anyone have it? Surprised if I've missed anything on here.

There are others paying better rates even now - but no harm in applying. I think unless you are an existing member (and have online access) you must apply by post or in branch.

Are there any obscure building societies or banks paying better with a penalty-free withdrawal option? (I know some mainstream ones such as TSB's monthly saver does).

The link you give leads straight to a page saying 'apply online'!

Reminder that the first (of two) interest rate reductions on Yorkshire Building Society happens today.

In order to withdraw or close by bank transfer, you need to set the bank details up in advance (which took a day to get activated on my account).  You also won't get the money on the same day, they say "by end of the next working day".
Can you tell me how you set the bank details up in advance? I've logged into my account and cannot see where you can do this. When I sent a secure message for my parents they were that you put the account details in on the closure request?

Click on Transfer on the left-side menu once you have entered your account. You then have the option to add external banking details.

Click on Transfer Money, then Manage Transfer accounts. It takes a business day or so for the account to become available for withdrawals

Or you could just click on the close account under manage. That way you get your interest added. You will not receive any money now until Friday.

Unless you already hold an account with YBS that you want the money transferred to, you still need to set the account details up in advance.  Took just over a day before I was able to withdraw to (or close and transfer to) my non-YBS bank account.

I can only  speak from my own experience.  I clicked on close I was asked where I wanted the money sent, I put the name, sort code and account of the bank account and it arrived late the following afternoon in my account

I'm clinging on to my 2% and 1.6% till 20/4, may even keep the 1.3% on RS2.
