Letter from Ipswich Building Society.  With effect from 20th April:
    - Smart Save down from 0.30% + 3.00% bonus to 0.10% + 3.00% bonus
    - Smart Save (2) down from 0.30% + 2.50% bonus to 0.10% + 2.50% bonus

Both are withdrawn for new customers, but still excellent accounts if you already have one.

Thanks - but new YBS interest rates from 5/4/20 ie 1.5% MS, 2% MS issue2 and 1.6% MS issue3 are equal or better than Marcus so I will leave it until 20/4 when I will empty all YBS accounts. 20/4 is a Monday, so would it be best to set up bank details by Friday 17/4 ?
Guess it depends on your tax status (today marks the start of a new tax year).  I'm a 40% taxpayer, only getting 1.2% and 0.96% respectively at YBS after tax (my £500 allowance will already be maxed with other accounts), so I've shifted the YBS money into a Cash ISA paying 1.5%.
    What cash Isa pays 1.5%?
Virgin perhaps? Older issues (no longer available) still paying 1.50%

This could be interesting in the current climate:
    https://www.monbs.com/products/saver-plus/
£20-£1000 pm every month, one withdrawal pa, 0.55% variable and 1% fixed Bonus if those conditions met.

I see limited value in that account whilst you can still get more than 1.55% in 1-year fixed rate bonds, alongside lots of 2%+ regular savers. Am I missing something?

The obvious thing you're missing is you can withdraw the money with no notice
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?
  • The Ecology Building Society RS is still available at 1.75% pa variable, up to £250 per month and unlimited in time. I opened mine in 2017 to avail myself of their facility to deposit by direct debit, paying in £50 per month. I'm now increasing this to £250. Two withdrawals per year (unlimited). Third withdrawal leads to closure.

I thought we could do this on several other Regular Savers, too. E.g. Lloyds, BOS, Halifax - as many withdrawals as I like, without losing any interest.

But I did miss that the max monthly deposit is a generous £1,000. Thanks for helping me to figure it out - going to apply straight away

I'm still receiving this rate on my Coventry ISA.

If that's your criteria - assume you've got their Christmas too?

I do though it's in somewhat of a dormant state. I still have a 1.6% instant access account for a little while...........

I just wish they did online applications. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of a snail mail application - especially if they decide that they can't identify us and decide they need further documentation in which case Mrs Phil would need to get a certified copy of her passport or driving licence.

I posted my application this morning.  They should be able to verify me electronically, but if they start wanting certified copies I won't bother responding to them.
I applied for that Monmouthshire Saver Plus yesterday, and am still waiting to hear back from them
