A sadness that so many OS stalwarts aren't here now isn't it?

Nowadays, most of the time I simply don't have the energy to put together a coherent post. The forum change is just another bit of hassle - I haven't yet found out how to disable PMs, which I'd done on the old forum, or even if it's possible.
Like you, I got masses of PMs last week, every time someone posted on one of my bookmarks (aka subscribed threads).
If you go to your profile (click on the silhouette next to your username) then you can edit profile. Unclick some or all of the preferences then you should stop the PMs. What irritated me was that I'd never opted for them in the first place. Mse had decided for me and filled my email inbox with stuff I didn't want.7 -

Those of us who know you would never contact you by pm as we're very aware of the cruelty of that message. Ignore any pms, don't read them. I don't know if anyone has asked the question on site feedback. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack over there. I do feel there should be an option to block pms if wanted.Hope you're both plodding on. Take care and watch the spoons.pollyxx

Like many, I am struggling with the new system and visit much less now. I miss being able to, without logging in, being able to quickly 'click' to go to the latest post. If I have missed any I used to work backwards but it seems less easy having to be at the first page, then find the last page before scrolling down to find the latest post.
If I am missing a quick link to the latest post please let me know.
Maybe, like many new things, it takes time to get used to. I would like to have the speed of access as was easy and quicker before. Sometimes I check now and just abandon it when I can't get quickly to where I want to be.
It is probably a lot to ask but I wonder if a quick Q and A to see if an easy missed solution is available and already answered - or to ask a quick question such as "How do I do this in the new system now?" Time is a problem, I'm afraid and I miss following the lovely helpful 'regulars.'
I usually really enjoy the forums but much less so now, I am sorry.

That's the saddest part isn't it that the hard work these forums have become for many posters takes away a great deal of the pleasure of being on them and thus the usefulness of their existence. The fewer people using MSE they fewer advertisers there will be and ultimately we might see the demise of their usefulness and then they will stop.4

Gers said:My view is that we didn't have any lessons in order to use the old forum, we found out either by fiddling with it or getting help from others. Surely it must be the same here. I appreciate that some wouldn't want to bother or found it too difficult.I can use this new layout on both my iPads and on my laptop via Firefox. Too much white space to the right but, apart from that, I will muddle through. The colour scheme seems OK, the list o threads has a strange font which has serifs, these always prove more difficult to read. The font in posts are san serif which are much more soothing on the eyes.I miss a lot of the regulars, but then I miss a lot of the posters who are long gone too. It's a bit like good neighbours moving house - new neighbours soon arrive and make themselves at home.I think this is a good point.I don't think this new format is an improvement but we either have to get used to it - in the way suggested by Gers - or stop using it.I've picked up tips on doing things or stopping it doing things from other posters and have passed on those tips and also some of my own.I think we all have periods where we need to learn new stuff, maybe a new washing machine, phone etc.Having worked in IT for a large period in my life I was used to having to get used to new systems. Some serious complaints I've read have been about the 'look' of the forum and the difficulty visually-challenged people have.I think this is something that MSE need to address but although I've read lots of posts on various boards, I'm not sure that anyone has approached MSE with a concisely worded explanation of these issues.I find the new MSE 'clunky' in places and don't think the 'bookmarks' facility works as well as the old UCP (user control panel) where I would look for new posts on the threads I'd posted on or had subscribed to.And on my phone, I do not have the 'bookmark' option at all so I've no idea whatsoever about what threads I've posted on once I've not got access to my laptop.I wonder if those people accessing MSE on their phone have de-installed and re-installed the app.I found the first few days were a nightmare (using the original app) but having had my phone do a complete reboot at the weekend and losing all my contacts, photos, texts and apps, the newly installed version seems better than the one I had (but still not as good as the original).Maybe the old users who are missing will come back.

Im sure the last forum 'upgrade' virtually killed of the Digital Spy forums, At least they tried to keep the users happy with changing the look to a more user friendly text and font, but it was possibly too late, They also used 'vanilla forums', As it is, This 'Free' Forum software 'out off the Box' is like a 1960's car, lacking the most basic user features. And its not very MSE for every user to have to upgrade their phone or tablet every 2 years.

- as an example of when people have to get used to new things. Changing from android to iphone for example.
- as a potential tip for users who may be accessing MSE on their phone that de-installing and re-installing the MSE app actually made the new forum better for me.
