I really like that it takes me to the first unread post on the threads that I follow. It saves flicking back and checking the "thanks" button. I've also found it easy to see who I've thanked.....I just hold the pointer over the thanks button and it tells me who has thanked a post. It takes a while to become used to new things and nobody ever learned to drive or play a musical instrument after just one lesson........I guess the more we use it the more accustomed we will become to it.16

Some are a loss, some.. less so. But things change and evolve and we have to make the best of it. I don't mind the new format although I cannot get it to load onto my (very ancient) ipad at all but it's not a huge problem.
Frith, I don't have the strip of dazzling white... I have links to Martin;s blog and stuff llike that.
I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -
I am managing on my one year old Kindle Fire, on Chrome after I adjusted the device to deal with the lurid colour, etc
I can't say I like the new format, but as I never subscribed to threads etc I just potter down the list like I always did.
I was glad I checked my email address as advised before the switch - it was ten years out of date- and I waited a while to log in to the new set up, just in case!
But, the biggest change for me are those who have left or disappeared. It is horrible to think they felt they had to go.

I think the way this migration has been handled by mse is dreadful. It's obviously been inadequately tested, full of glitches and missing lots of the thnigs that posters liked (colour? font sizes? good range of emojis?). There isn't even a simple guide to how to use it and mse are communicating very little indeed.
I don't know many of the posters mentioned but I do remember JackieO. She had advice to offer that went way back to the war. I can only conclude that she is very elderly and coming to terms with all this unnecessary mayhem was just too much.

I confess I haven't spent much time on MSE of late; but life went a bit haywire when my DH was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Nowadays, most of the time I simply don't have the energy to put together a coherent post. The forum change is just another bit of hassle - I haven't yet found out how to disable PMs, which I'd done on the old forum, or even if it's possible. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)8

Well, I supose it i kind of bland after the range of stuff you could play with before, but I'm not seeing any of ths garish colour or blinding stripes...I used Adblock plus to remove all the elements from the right, the background is kind of pale tealy blue. And I;m using Firefox...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi9

Like you, I got masses of PMs last week, every time someone posted on one of my bookmarks (aka subscribed threads).
If you go to your profile (click on the silhouette next to your username) then you can edit profile. Unclick some or all of the preferences then you should stop the PMs. What irritated me was that I'd never opted for them in the first place. Mse had decided for me and filled my email inbox with stuff I didn't want.9 -
I'm not so sure about the new format. It's not compatible with certain browsers either which doesn't help those forum members with older browsers - and who for "MSE" reasons, may not want to upgrade to a newer computer in order to use a more up to date browser.
Anyway, that's my thoughts - It still needs a bit of fine tuning - as in maybe easier fonts to read as this one is very small and I sometimes have to squint to read it.
People aren't broken, they're just interestingly wired.4 -
My view is that we didn't have any lessons in order to use the old forum, we found out either by fiddling with it or getting help from others. Surely it must be the same here. I appreciate that some wouldn't want to bother or found it too difficult.I can use this new layout on both my iPads and on my laptop via Firefox. Too much white space to the right but, apart from that, I will muddle through. The colour scheme seems OK, the list o threads has a strange font which has serifs, these always prove more difficult to read. The font in posts are san serif which are much more soothing on the eyes.I miss a lot of the regulars, but then I miss a lot of the posters who are long gone too. It's a bit like good neighbours moving house - new neighbours soon arrive and make themselves at home.11

All the MSE emails had been identified as Spam. Unsurprisingly, seeing as the switchover had set up emails to notify users of every single reply on every single thread they had ever posted on, not just the ones they had subscribed on - going by the vast quantities of the things lurking in the Spam bin over the past week.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll6
