when are you putting your xmas decs up?

We normally put our decorations and tree up on the first of December. I say its for our daughters benefit but I love it too.;)
This year they will probably be going up on the 2nd as we have to visit my sister on the first as she is off in a few days to get married in New York.

DH and I are off to his parents on Saturday to get the decorations out the loft and the lights. We will then struggle round the garden, trying not to fall in the pond, and get them all up! Then on Sunday we'll put our decorations up. They'll be up for about 5 weeks won't they, so we'll get our money's worth!

I take mine down on new years day , to me its a new year and no longer xmas . Perhaps thats why i always have bad luck in November ??

Will put the tree up next weekend or the one after . we are busy decorating (painting etc )like crazy at the moment .:rotfl:

Ours are going up on Sunday. Simple real Xmas tree, white lights, candy sticks and silver sprayed cones. I find anything else a bit tacky!

Myself & my Dad used to really go for it when I lived at home. At our peak, we had about 10,000 - 20,000 lights on the house and the surrounding trees & a 10ft tree on part of the roof, fully decorated. In addition, we had a crane arrive to put a huge Santa & sleigh on the roof, fully lit, which could be seen for about 2 miles!

It started as a competition with a neighbour for a laugh who them gave up, but then we started getting lots of local kids & their parents come to see it from lots of villages around. It just grew and grew over 15 years until it became a little silly! Now they do a small display of about 2,000 lights. Bit tacky, but fun.

Our house in France will be lit up from the 21st December (when we arrive), which is a lot nicer as it is normally very snowy over Xmas (Village high up in the mountains), and you can't beat white lights twinkling in the snow for a real Xmas feeling!

Mine will probably go up on the 22nd or 23rd Dec, as I can never be bothered doing them now my daughter's left home, cos she used to help me:p

Always put mine up 1 December, though it will be tonight (Fri). Having niece and nephew round to make mince pies with me, then we are putting the tree up whilst dancing cheesily to Christmas cds then watching Polar Express. :j

As soon as I muster the strength to knock the computer off I'll be cleaning the house top to bottom ready to decorate tomorrow x

i put them up just before the holidays, i need to feel the Christmas magic as strongly as possible!
