  • We usually put our tree up the first or 2nd weekend of december. With the 1st falling on a saturday, we are doing it then.

As for xmas films, 'its a wonderful life' is a must-see, its so beautifuL I cry my eyes out every time.

For something a bit more cynical and witty try 'scrooged', very funny.

Oh and am ashamed to admit.............. Love Actually!

  • 2 weeks before Xmas and not before. Have already seen one tree up already in the chavviest part of town. Won't be long till the houses with kids are turned into wanna-be Blackpool illuminations.

Sorry, Bah Humbug and all that, but the over-the-top Xmas decorations and lights gurning from house to house really does my head in! I don't like this time of your at all.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Since the little Luxor's have started in Uni our tree and lights go up in time for the student to come home, so as DD is due back 14 /15th, we trim the tree on 8th December and OM gets busy with the hammer and ladder outside on the 9th.

Tradition demands that returning student acts amazed and surprised on seeing chez Luxor ablaze with festive cheer- but as this is the 5th year (DS1 did it for 3 years, this is DD's 2nd) and they are not of a histrionic turn of mind, we settle for a smile.

Must say the neighbours don't seem to bother much, which is a real disappointment. One of the huge treats when I was small was going for an evening walk to look at the lit Christmas trees shining in the front windows.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • We are putting ours up on Saturday with my daughter, she is only 18 months but she has the job of putting the star on top of the tree and she is so excited about the decorations this year, she points at the ones in the shops going "ishmas!" so I can't wait to see her face when she gets some in the house.
  • My 2 year old son has his christmas tree in his bedroom already - we put it up last Wednesday - we were marooned upstairs while the ceiling was being plasterd so after running out of toys to play with and drained the hot water having a bath we then went up into the loft to have a snoop around - it usually takes all weekend to decorate the house so I thought I'd start early.

Outside lights going up on Saturday morning and then in the afternoon we are going to the 'lighting up the lights parade' then on Sunday its off to find the 'good old Griswald family christmas tree' ................ we stomp around the tree lot and then we see it shining there with its halo around it .............. Yep National Lampoons Christmas Vacation is our all time favourite.

We put our decs up early because when I lived at home the earliest was the 19th of December as my mums birthday is the 18th and she didn't want her cards mixed in with christmas - I must have been the last kid in school to have them put up - so deprived !!!!!

Just had to edit this ................. just got back from getting my nails done to see 3 reindeers in the front garden ................ also husband now wants to go to tree lot at first light on saturday morning ............. we'll be there before the staff turn up - probably with a flask of coffee ............... in years to come when our kids are older - they are gonna be so embarrassshed of us
