I wonder who lives there? They seem more interested in style than practicality.edgex said:https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-78663619.html

Had never seen before and wasn't sure if genius idea or bizarre compromise but having thought about it - if you really really need a loo somewhere and obviously it needs hand washing facilities then it probably does the job quite cleverly as long as building regs have no issues with it and hopefully it can recycle water for the flush? Not sure those with mobility problems would be too keen.zagubov said:

It was on my possible list with a false wall put up, floor to ceiling book case creating the false wall or just removing it.
I just couldn't picture myself mid- conversation and loads of tea having a mate say 'can I nip to the loo' and actually saying 'yeah, behind you'......
Plus not having a decent 2nd bedroom.
Have they actually put a handsink on top of the toilet?

I seem to remember ages ago we mentioned Japan's obsession with saving room by having drawers under the house that you could slide your car into, etc.

I think I saw the idea in this book I used to own
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2301084.283_Useful_Ideas_from_Japan
It was full of ideas like petrol stations hanging petrol pumps above cars so they don't take up groundspace, etc.
As for the toilet, yes, the idea was the wastewater fro the sink is used to flush the toilet. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker2 -
@Patr100 I actually looked into it quite a bit after sussing it out from the flat I posted.
Great idea if there is only a small space, but the idea of trying to lean forward, over the normal sized toilet bowl, wasn't one I thought would work for me, or others with disabilities; the only way it would work is if there was space to the side to stand, but that would defeat the object of having one as technically a small sink could go in

Don't forget the water saving aspect.MovingForwards said:@Patr100 I actually looked into it quite a bit after sussing it out from the flat I posted.

The clearance will vary (eg the random example I posted) but it surely wouldn't be that difficult to manufacture a shallow fitted basin that could pivot or slide out (made of lighter plastic with a flexible internal hose/waste etc) which might be a solution for that awkward reach over the bowl.MovingForwards said:@Patr100 I actually looked into it quite a bit after sussing it out from the flat I posted.

If it doesn't already exist, I'm claiming the idea.3 -
@General_Grant I do like the concept, in the right space it would work eg a thin shower room where the toilet was on the longest side and a shower at the end of the room, allowing room to stand one side of the loo.
@Patr100 the one I linked to in a flat didn't have much clearance either side, certainly not enough to stand by it and not over the toilet.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
A thing I remember now is that in (at least some parts of ) Japan there's a rule that in apartments, WCs must be separate from bathrooms, and so there needs to be a way of integrating a washbasin with a toilet.Patr100 said:
