Is it just me or is grey now looking incredibly dated?JuzaMum said:3 bed detached bungalow for sale in Inglewood Avenue, Bournemouth BH8 - Zoopla
Is the dining suite real?
Pine stairs and coffee table also out of place. And a skinny Darth Vader overlooking nasty grey fences.1 -

That's the problem with jumping on the latest fashions, it absolutely guarantees your house will look dated a few years down the line. I predict high gloss kitchens and squared off baths, sinks & toilets will also go the way of avocado bathrooms and artex in the not too distant future.

I agree that the pine in that house looks very out of place.robatwork said:

I think grey can look well when done right. But it has to be done right and not over the top. That house just doesn't pull it off and neither do the ones that have gone over the top with grey. It has to be done subtly.0 -
We had our bath taken out last year, and replaced with a big walk in shower, as part of a total bathroom refurb. Our house would definitely be classed as a family house, all the houses which come up for sale in our road are sold to young families, normally when the elderly residents have died.davidmcn said:
Besides, if it's a room which previously accommodated a bath, it's hardly a huge job to put one back in if you want to.Hannimal said:robatwork said:No it does not. It may put a lot of British-born British people off buying, sure, but in majority of the world not everyone has a bath tub, yet people have children and they are absolutely fine washing them, even when they're babies, toddlers or infants. What a very odd statement.
There's a very good reason backed by sound logic.
It's awkward, difficult, bordering on impossible to shower a baby, toddler or infant. Hence the phrase "bath time, kids".
Lack of bath instantly puts off anyone with a young family or planning one.
The water supply to the bath is still there under the shower tray, capped off of course, so it would be quite a small job to reinstate a bath if needed.1 -
I find the high gloss kitchen units dated now! Plus they pick up every fingerprint etc on them. Unsure what’s the next fashion for now!NaughtiusMaximus said:

I think they're fairly timeless, they'll never be the ultra fashionable in thing but on the other hand will never look hopelessly outdated either - IMO of course.RelievedSheff said:

Our shaker kitchen, with solid oak doors etc, is coming up for 15 years old - and still looks good.NaughtiusMaximus said:

It is a matter of taste. We had a white shaker kitchen in our last house that was fitted before we moved in and we were there for 12 years. It was fine, there was nothing wrong with it. We just much prefer the cream high gloss kitchen that we have in our current house.Silvertabby said:

Despite being white and cream both kitchens were surprisingly good at hiding dirt on the cupboard doors!
We had assumed that this high gloss kitchen would be a nightmare to keep clean but it has proven otherwise. The cupboard doors just get a wipe down with Koh once a week and don't really show up dirt or finger prints. I can imagine that a darker colour would perhaps show up finger prints more.0 -
Regarding styles, especially kitchens, I think it's safe to say white never goes out of style.
I'm quite a fan of the plywood units I see on various home improvement programs - you can't beat natural finishes and white.
I guess every colour will come in and out, but grey seems to have had 5 years or more in the sun. I'm betting on mint green and mustard for 2022-2030. You heard it here first.1
