Bedsits never equated with self contained studio apartments, since you invariably shared bathroom and toilet facilties in a bedsit.
Modern bedsits would now more closely equate to HMOs ( house of multiple occupancy), although in the more upmarket HMO the rooms might have their own self contained shower /toilet and share kitchen/ living rooms.
The bedsits immortalised in the 'Rising Damp' sitcom have now all but disappeared in London, although I saw many of them ( via auction) all the way into the 1990s early 2000s.
