This is just down the road from us. Noticed when I was returning from a fell walk earlier that it had gone on the market. I've always fancied having a go at converting it into a wee house. It'd be a wonderful place to stay if you were on holiday up here. I do hope someone takes it on.

Yes, it's certainly a problem especially in the honey-spots (Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick, etc) and any of the chocolate box villages within the National Park boundaries. This one is in a less well known corner. Whether it would be possible to get planning permission to turn it into a permanent home (rather than a holiday cottage) I don't know but I think it would make a lovely permanent home. A lot of the local villages (including ours) have a 'local interest' stipulation on some of the houses that come up for sale. We're a few miles outside the National Park, which makes quite a difference when it comes to affordable housing.lincroft1710 said:

Of course, the holiday cottages/lets do contribute significantly to the local economy it has to be said. The challenge is finding the right balance.4 -
