That is nice!  Another one that will, sadly, end up being gutted.  It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be much desire to preserve the character of such places.

I walk past this house nearly every day.  The amount of creative work gone into making the front and side gardens with little walkways and bridges, statues etc.  I'll try and see if I can get some pictures but it's pretty overgrown now.  I'm new to the area so I don't know how long it's been unoccupied but clearly it was once someone's pride and joy.

That's Rye Park, rather than main Hoddesdon. Within sightlines (almost) of the Rye Park karting / race track - perfect for your budding Lewis Hamiltons!

A few years back I'd have been all over it - walking distance to the speedway! 

I agree with the earlier comment though - it's clearly been a very well loved house, that shines through. It's in a super-convenient location as well!

I was wondering if the glass is the sort that can be made opaque when a current is switched on but couldn't find any mention in the details given and can't download the brochure so never mind.

I did quite fancy this which was in today's Guardian 4 bedroom castle for sale in Tawstock, Barnstaple, Devon, EX31, although I think the gate would have to go.
When I was looking for it on Right Move I saw this 4 bedroom castle for sale in Tawstock, Barnstaple, Devon, EX31 which I think would be a bit easier on my knees, but the downstairs floor plan is a bit of a disaster.

Apparently the website where I saw it flagged asked the Estate Agents and they said as far as they knew, it wasn't the type that can turn opaque.

Actually there are few London telephone boxes locally that can be purchased , directly from BT when decommissioned, a local community centre where I work has bought one outside the local  tube station  for £100 which they plan to use to advertise their services and events.
£1500 or more one off for a prime spot on a busy London road isn't such a bad deal if it works for your intended purpose.
You are committed to maintain it of course, though not for the original purpose.
