It’s not a joke. People were scammed into buying these tiny plots of land in the middle of nowhere, as if they were building plots. I expect that at £5k the seller would not even be breaking even.BikingBud said:No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
A few of those sort of plots listed near me. I don’t understand who is expected to buy them.BikingBud said:I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. These are sometimes sold as an alternative to an allotment. Instead of renting, you own the property and have more freedom how you use it, don't have allotment inspections etc.BikingBud said:
This could also be used for storage presumably and when you consider how much some people pay for storage units, this isn't that bad for value Perhaps a workshop if planning allows? Not such a bad investment if it is close to your home.0 -
My understanding is that the plots aren't actually marked out on the ground. So you can't find it, you don't have access as it's in the middle of a field. I thought they were resales of larger plots of land, from people who bought hoping to get developer interest and now wanting to divest.Liz1966 said:

https://www.fca.org.uk/consumers/land-banking-investment-scamsThe plot linked above is 0.03 of an acre. The land is agricultural land, worth say £10k an acre, so the plot is £300 worth of land. It would have been sold off to punters at anywhere from £5k to £20k a plot.I don’t know what has happened to the land since it’s been sold off in these individual plots. Can it even be used as a field now without the permission of all the owners? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1

Planning would not allow a workshop or storage? It's agricultural land, so I guess you could use it as an allotment, if you can find your land in the middle of the field, and assuming a local farmer hasn’t allowed his cattle to graze it.Liz1966 said:
