Oh. My. God. The photos. The price! (I'm familiar with this area and I am gobsmacked with it!). The estate agent description! I am stunned. 😬🤯 https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/145449563?utm_medium=email&utm_source=emailupdates&utm_campaign=emailupdatesinstant&utm_term=buying&onetime_FromEmail=true&sc_id=38573657&utm_content=v2-ealertspropertyimage&cid=41d17914-8dbe-4ad9-93a1-f13fae920a6b&csg=87852cd85ede7d02de95cd5c4e2e7ce8d4333c7f67bcfa7526bc4fc3d8389f66#/?channel=RES_BUY
markin said:A road i watch has a house that was clearly done to flip that has been sat empty for 2 years now due to bad timing and its now likely 50K over priced for the area, The is likely a lot of house flippers stuck with an over renovated house.
Some of the houses in my area were clearly bought to flip. They sold, e.g., a year ago, for a low price and now are on for a higher price with 'refurbished to a high standard' in the listings and all the standard finishing and fittings to be expected when flipping. Some of them have sold. One near me I'm particularly interested in knowing what it sold for as the price had come down but then hit a hard number that the seller wouldn't go below. But, probably not on LR for a while.
There's one house near me that I think is ripe for a cheap offer and then full refurbishment. I viewed it and it looks terrible. My thoughts for that house is that I'm not convinced by the refurb and flip thing, but that house would be much better for it. It's probably on for £40K less than the price it would be if in better condition, but I suspect it will end up selling for less than that.
Just checked the listing. Due to my critique, I'm not sure about posting the link here but I will PM it to anyone who asks. The listing itself doesn't look too bad, but it was much much worse viewed from up close. Devil is in the detail e.g. the mortar for the bricks for the extension being horrible and (hardened but) squelching in and out everywhere.
The house is bigger than mine, is in a slightly more expensive location, and has a bigger (but more inclined) garden and better parking. And, it's cheaper than my house was. But, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
Glad to hear that your parents house was OK.0 -

Reading between the lines, the big downstairs area is too cold / too expensive to heat in winter so they abandon it and live in the easier to heat small loft setup.2
