Glad to hear it’s working, it’s really surprising how much water they can absorb.
Another 2litres overnight on low setting. Back on high again today. Its crazy how much difference it has made.
Oh wow Sarah that's amazing news the dehumidifier is doing it's job!! I'm sure you're so relieved!
Just about drying washing...have you ever considered a tumble dryer? I know many would say they aren't MSE friendly but I don't find running ours is that expensive...and fluffy towels are sooo worth the extra cost lol
We have a 2 in 1 washer dryer but sadly not many of my clothes are able to go in the dryer. I have been putting the washing through an extra spin cycle and hanging it out on the line during day to reduce amount of time I need it indoors. Once heating is back working that will help as have a radiator airer I can use.

Sorry to hear about your damp problem Sarah.  We lived in a couple of really old houses recently and it seemed to be a constant fight to keep the damp at bay.  I ended up buying a temperature/humidity gauge but didn't ever get the places down to a decent humidity - if your humidity is too high you just won't be able to warm the place up as the air is so full of water.

The tinternet was really good for getting advice and there's lots you can do to reduce the humidity (apparently just breathing creates lots of moisture - so working from home means my house doesn't get chance to dry out.  But there's things like keeping lids on saucepans when you are cooking, and I know someone has already mentioned about drying washing outside - there's a few more tips here:  https://www.waverley.gov.uk/info/141/repairs/2117/tackling_damp_mould_and_condensation_in_your_council_home

    Humidifier sounds great.
Thanks I'll take a look at the link. Sadly I thjnk the issue might be coming from next door. As it's only one room and one wall that is having the issue and that backs onto their downstairs hallway area.

  • Popped to tesco this morning to grab a few bits including cold stuff for me. Although it seems clearing the water out the air has helped with that too. Might also have put the Xmas tree up 🙈🤣
Been using candles round the living room to warm us up and certainly seems to be working well. Good job I had so many yank ones from last black Friday leftover still. Who needs heating lol. I used my £10 club card vouchers towards my shopping which helped. I use their Xmas saving scheme to save mine up throughout the year and have them in November. Very handy this close to Xmas. Also managed to get a smelly set on offer for part of my brothers Xmas present. So now just my bestie left to buy for. Her birthday is also at start December as well. Hoping I get to see her as its her 30th. Tomorrow should be a no spend day unless I find something in amazon deals for her. But trying to hold off to see what charms are in black Friday deals.

  • Good morning. Just up to page 10 of your diary.  So sorry to hear about your Mum.

Reading your diary has reminded me how quickly everything changed this year. Your plans for the football,  your brothers wedding... then everything came to a standstill.

I will catch up a bit more but need to feed some children.

Just the tree and fireplace decorations for us. But it's enough to add that Xmas feel without going crazy

  • I'm all up to date. Glad the new dehumidifier seems to be working. Its oddly satisfying watching each 2L go down the drain knowing its a bit less on my walls. We think the damp has been causing  DS cough so it could have been causing the cold symptoms.
Christmas tree! Already!?! 😱🤣 After this year I know so many people that have put them up already. My cousin got her first house a couple of months ago and put hers up mid October. My house is way to dusty to Have it up for more than a couple of weeks so hoping to wait until beginning of December.

Thanks for catching up! It is so satisfying draining it away. My cold symptoms have gone completely now so I think you could be right.
I know it's a bit early but have to say the more I look at it the more I kind of love it haha.

  • Just caught up with your diary. It seems like every diary I've read everyone's getting festive already!
Are those posh candles worth it? I'm using one from Wilko at the moment to freshen the living room up a bit. I've never been sure whether it's worth paying extra for a brand name when it's something you quite literally set on fire.
Another dehumidifier fan here btw... glad you're feeling better these days.

Haha, I’m also using a candle for heat. I’m not in control of the heating here and my room gets pretty chilly (used to be a garage). Imagining it’s an open fire flickering out of the corner of my eye.
