another_casualty said:Regarding the dehumidifier
You need to shut all windows and doors in that bedroom only
Have it at max setting
Never turn it off !What should happen initially is that it should fill up pretty quick
If you are at home during the day for example , then I'd advise you to keep windows and doors in your bedroom closed and have it running for 8 hrs constantly .
when you go to bed, you can leave door open ..but repeat the process next day.
You should find that by the third day , you can just leave it on everyday on smart setting .
Dont forget Black Friday deals
Amazon have started theirs now I think .EBAC make good dehumidifiers

Dehumidifier has arrived. Plugged in and on turbo as advised in the guidance for first few days if have a damp issue. It's about same noise level as my fan on turbo which I sleep through during summer months so think should be OK. Never know may help with my recent sleep issues as got worse over last 6-8 weeks. There's something quite reassuring about hearing the trickle of water into the container. Definitely seems to be working better than the cheap one so could be worth it's money. Hope so as trying to get someone in to treat and redo the wall in my bedroom which is also my office atm for working from home could be problematic. Let's hope this fix is enough for now. I'll keep you updated. Apparently it also has a laundry mode which dries clothes in 2 to 3 hours. Not gonna try it currently but useful to know. Gonna put mini one in housemates bedroom to avoid any potential issues with her room. Pulled my bed and bedside draws away from wall to try and allow it to air and hopefully might start to see some improvements.
Not heard anything from the sofa finance people but think chances of getting any money back is slim by sounds of it. Seen a few people on different forums etc have similiar issues. Problem lies in proving it was a manufacturing issue. Would be easier if going through sofa company directly but as they are in administration I'm stuck. Think may have to just be an expensive lesson to learn. Choose sofa more wisely. Gone for same one as my brother and his family as they have had no issues with it, its comfy and sturdy. They too like me are on the heavier side as well. Which I imagine would be the excuse for why its broke. But it's not like I jump on it or anything. Oh well.
Paperwork for new sofa arrived today and on the delivery estimate there's a note saying try to get before Xmas. Not sure if will happen and don't wanna my hopes up but would be great if they did. Currently it's moved forward to 12 weeks and that's only after a few days. So who knows. I guess it also depends on what impact lockdown has on production.
Torn at the moment with what to do about paying off card etc as part of me wants to use the money I have saved to do so other thinks save it in case you need work done on the damp. But other part is like well if you did need it I could borrow the money off my dad which is interest free and I don't have to worry about paying it off by a certain time. It's not ideal but probably better choice if needed.*Dad loan - £5300 - £7200

I know I keep going on about this dehumidifier but I'm in shock. Put it in when it arrived at about 2pm. Left it on all evening in turbo at high and came to bed bay 9.30 and it's turned itself off because the tank had filled up. It holds 2 litres 😮 I'm in shock. No wonder I have had damp issues. Emptied it and put it in eco so half power settings for over night tonight and be intrigued to see how much is in it in the morning. Best £150 I have spent.

Glad to hear it’s working, it’s really surprising how much water they can absorb.1

Oh wow Sarah that's amazing news the dehumidifier is doing it's job!! I'm sure you're so relieved!
Just about drying washing...have you ever considered a tumble dryer? I know many would say they aren't MSE friendly but I don't find running ours is that expensive...and fluffy towels are sooo worth the extra cost lolDebt Free as of December 2020 👏

Sorry to hear about your damp problem Sarah. We lived in a couple of really old houses recently and it seemed to be a constant fight to keep the damp at bay. I ended up buying a temperature/humidity gauge but didn't ever get the places down to a decent humidity - if your humidity is too high you just won't be able to warm the place up as the air is so full of water.
The tinternet was really good for getting advice and there's lots you can do to reduce the humidity (apparently just breathing creates lots of moisture - so working from home means my house doesn't get chance to dry out. But there's things like keeping lids on saucepans when you are cooking, and I know someone has already mentioned about drying washing outside - there's a few more tips here: https://www.waverley.gov.uk/info/141/repairs/2117/tackling_damp_mould_and_condensation_in_your_council_home
