P.S. Just had a thought, any spare cash you get squirrel it away for the coming winter to use either on extra fuel bills or food stuffs. I am a great squirreler when it comes to spare cash :)
That's exactly what I'm doing too.  I have various "pots" to pay for different things and now have a new squirrel fund as well that gets fed with every spare penny to go towards next winter's exorbitant energy bills.

I agree about using up what we already have before buying more, it's surprising how many meals a store cupboard can provide.  That said, I will buy any bargains that I spot whilst out shopping providing of course it's something we will eat.

I've decided to keep my grocery budget "as is" for now but with the way prices are going up it will have to stretch further, so it's really a reduction by the back door.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

Same here @YorksLass; can't really afford more for the groceries if we're cover all our other pots.  We're going to need a new boiler in the next year or two so saving for that, also need to replace the double glazing at the back of the bungalow which includes French doors; the front door also needs to be replaced so it's certainly going to be an expensive year or two!

It always seems to come at once doesn't it.just when you think you are on the upward trend ,something comes along with a wallop to send you back down again A bit like snakes and ladders life isn't it.
I was feeling quite relaxed then we had the storm a few weeks ago and wallop tiles came off the roof which had to be repaired asap in case of rain.Luckily my builder did it fairly quickly bless him but it still made a hole in several hundren pounds that I wasn't expecting. On the positive side I had my Feb-March duel fuel in today and its only gone up by around £6.00 sinece last years Feb-March bill so I'm not too bothered about that. With milder days its becoming only an hour a day for heating which will help bring down my bills for a few months.
