  • Today I made apple cinnamon oat biscuits to use up a sad old apple.
used this recipe but omitted the milk and halved the quantities. Added one chopped apple and some cinnamon. Made six large. They’re very nice!

Made soup from some past-their-best sweet potatoes, carrots and butternut squash, with onions, garlic and curry powder.  Unfortunately it tastes terribly sweet - any ideas to rescue it?  Huge pan - so really don't want to waste it.

what about a tin of tomatoes? the acid may take the sweetness off.  or if you don't want to add more bulk add the acid using lemon juice or a touch of vinegar

I did wonder about tomatoes - and maybe some lentils?  I'm going to end up with gallons of the stuff - but feel I'm committed now and refuse to be beaten,LOL!!

I found a carton of chilli & garlic passata so added that - RESULT!!!  Totally transformed it and OH promptly gobbled down 2 bowlfuls.  Just approximately 12 more portions to go!  Thanks Brambling.
As an aside, how do we update this thread to 2021?

  • Morning all
I have been trying to make sure we do not waste any food and it seems to be going well.  I noticed that my food shopping trips are becoming fewer and far between and am participating in the Grocery Challenge for February.  So far under budget with s week to go.
I have a quick question - how long will homemade (all vegetables) soup keep in the fridge?

Oh! What a shame.  I really miss JackieO's posts.
