Green soup made last night, so no waste. I put about one mushroom punnet of inedible waste (egg shells, cheese rinds - NB some of these can be used in soup - dead veg/mouldy bits) into the compost every 3 days. I have a hotbin, so it takes all food. I just need to put some paving slabs underneath it.5

newlywed said:newlywed said:Put the flour in the freezer, keeps longer and kills any critters... when I have room in my freezer, I keep flour there permanently. Bakes fine and doesn’t seem to clump or anything.
However, I'm feeling a few scones coming on! Tomorrow might be scone day.(I just lurve spiders!)

I've been meaning to say the sweet and sour veg stew is very nice, I put red kidney beans and red lentils in and the lentils absorbed plenty of the excess liquid. I have three serving of it in the freezer.something else I have learned, when I buy broccoli It is usually sealed inside a heavy plastic I have great difficulty getting into. Asda wrap it in clingfilm and it lasts a lot longer. I just need to decide which is best for the environment. Longer lasting broccoli or clingfilm.5

It's not just beans Candy, I had in it onions, carrots, sweet potato, tin tomatoes, mushrooms, parsnips, salad potatoes, then I put in some red kidney beans and some red lentils, a lot mixed herbs, garlic and ginger root. I made the sauce with lemon juice, a big squeeze of tomato ketchup, pineapple juice from a tin of pineapple chunks, 4 tsp of sugar, teaspoon of soy sauce, 2 tsp corn flour, this was all in a jug ready to go in my sweet and sour chicken I was making. I gave it a good stir and tipped it into my veg stew by mistake. The lentils were added because I had already made a tomato sauce in the stew so there was too much liquid. I also added two of the yellow peppers I had left they were a bit wrinkly but otherwise fine.I was using up the veg because I get an order every Friday. I was having the sweet and sour chicken so I had to make up another jug full. I often make up a sweet and sour sauce to go with red kidney beans, I also have onions, half a pepper red or green At the last minute I add the pineapple, fresh tomatoes cut into chunks, cucumber also cut into chunks. I just bring it to the boil again and then serve it with rice.I've left the quantities up to you because It depends how any veg I need to use up. The stew was very tasty and I have three potions in the freezer.6

Hi can I join the group?
Am starting on a journey to be zero waste in everything as much as I can. I like a challenge lol. I have had a look through some of the posts and am so inspired and keen to get started. Here’s to the beginning of my new lifestyle journey!10 -
Thanks NM, will have a try at it this week xx"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Well, had a bit of fail today.
Was tidying my fridge today and using up some veg in a meal, but found a head of broccoli that had gone yellow, a ridged cucumber that was starting to get mould spots, ditto a small sweet bite pepper and ditto the small heel end of a very old fennel.
I knew they were there, but I had overstocked with fresh veg, and couldn't eat stuff fast enough.
I'd had sprouting broccoli, which I had been eating in three meals, so I couldn't face normal broccoli as well. Shame about the cucumber. I usually eat it as batons with cheese, but was always too full after the veg meals each day.
The fennel end was very small, but the little pepper was a shame, although I do have more.
So that will all go onto the compost, but it was sheer waste, really. I don't think I've ever discarded a whole broccoli head or a whole cucumber before. ☹️☹️
Not sure what it cost, as it all came as part of a veg box.
As I said, a bit of a fail.☹️(I just lurve spiders!)
