Last night we had cherry jelly with a can of summer fruits in it - didn’t set very well + was well ood 😉 However it tasted delicious. I had 2 tins of squirty cream in the fridge but had to bin one as green round the nozzle 🤢 - £1.70 wasted 😒 - not a good start 🙁 However the other can is fine - I have wrapped some foil round the nozzle & it is only one month ood 😉Be Kind. I’ve done it again! Just found half a slushy cucumber in the bottom of the fridge. I’m going to stop buying them.5 -
Yes, gherkins are a good substitute and I have a jar in the fridge. I have occasionally used courgettes instead of cucumber as well. Cucumber is my only wastage. If I’m honest I can’t say that I really like it either - it’s good for crunch.4

Salad veg does tend to get wasted here so I only tend to buy lettuce and tomatoes and make up salads using jars, gherkins, peppers, olives, red cabbage pickled walnuts etc. use ordinary onion instead of scallions, it really has cut down on waste. I also use up fruit on a salad, grapes, strawberries, apples, even tinned pineapple6

The start of another week and another hm soup started using various los from freezer.Yesterday I made my first ever bread pudding using up most of my stale bread. It is scrumptious - DH & I had a portion each with double cream. Reminiscent of Christmas Pudding - the only trouble is that it is soooo nice it brought back the saying ‘a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips’ 😔Be Kind. Stay Safe. Break the Chain. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear 😞 DH was having a tidy in the garage & looked at the contents of the vegetable basket 😱 The carrots were irretrievable (90p), third of the parsnips (70p), quarter of the sweet potatoes (65p) - Total of £2.25 😞 Not totally wasted though as blended into a slurry to feed the worms & help the compost bins 😉 The rest of the parsnips & sweet potatoes have been cooked, mashed, bagged & frozen. However apart from that nothing that I have bought has been binned. DSis bought some grapes & never got around to eating them so the worms had a treat 😉
I have also made another soup - about to blitz & taste test.

I’ve just portioned up a pack of ham trimmings from Aldi, £1.89 into 10 portions and into the freezer. Each portion is big enough to make ham and red lentil soup, a round of sandwiches or quiche. I did a beef joint yesterday so I have separated the fat and jelly and now in the freezer for roasties or gravy.
