Well, I finally decided what to do with my surfeit of hard pears which, even after nearly four weeks in the fruit bowl still weren’t soft or tasty enough to eat ‘by hand’.
I blitzed them into purée with an apple, three overripe bananas and a squeeze of lemon. Then I was going to mix in creme fraiche but remembered I had some vanilla custard that needed using up, so mixed that in.
Can now get all those fruity vitamins etc. into me very easily! Some last night, some this morning for breakfast, and the rest tonight.
Now, got to think what to do with three large sweet potatoes.(I just lurve spiders!)

I am rather partial to sweet potato and chorizo soup (and yes I know the weather is better, but I have hm soup all year round). If no chorizo, I’d add paprika/chilli.
I also like sweet potato wedges (I don’t do chips but have had sweet potato chips in restaurants and they are yummy).6 -
Sweet potato chips or wedges for me too. Makes good mash too so could use to top a shepherds pie for example.

For some weird reason, I decided to try making sweet potato patties with two of them. Never made them before, didn’t have a recipe, but decided to wing it, so I boiled and mashed them, chucked in some black pepper, ground coriander and tarragon, and a few sunflower and pumpkin seeds that needed using up, and two spoons of olive oil, and mixed it all up, then tried forming them into patties!
Well, sticky or what? 😱
I had some out-date-flour, so managed, finally, to get them into a patty shape that would hold together long enough to stay off my fingers, and shallow fried them.
They didn’t fall to pieces in the pan, and did crisp nicely on each side.
Then I stir-fried some left-over veg...mushrooms, kale stalks, tomato, and chopped fresh herbs, and onion and garlic, and ate that with two of the patties.
Well, it was an interesting experiment, but the patties weren’t all that tasty, really, so probably weren’t worth all the mess and palaver. Maybe I should have fried them a wee bit longer. Dunno.
The third sweet potato will probably just get baked in the oven! 😁
Plus I burnt my tongue on the spatula while frying them. ☹️ Why do I never remember that metal that has been in hot frying oil will be searing? Derr!
Still, I have half a dozen more patties to eat cold later!

You could always freeze them so you don't have to eat them all over the next couple of days!

I've just used up two OOD sachets - one of mustard, one of mango chutney - on a ham that I found in the freezer. It's delicious
Like @Pyxis I also have 3 sweet potatoes to do something with. I might bake one with ham and salad at some point. And maybe soup the others - I was due to have a bone graft in my jaw on Monday, which has obviously been delayed, but at some point I'll be needing a lot of soup with no lumps in...

I'm just glad that I've used them up. I'm trying to empty the kitchen in the hope that I'll actually get one fitted at some point during the summer. So anything that takes up space longterm needs eating. At the same time, I'm worried that if lockdown continues, I might run out of food... but by then hopefully the veg garden will be working properly.6
