Am wondering if it might be useful for this thread to be merged with the Reverse Meal Planning thread, as the subject matter seems to be very similar?(I just lurve spiders!)

Hi Pyxis I don't think I have seen the Reverse Meal Planning thread. What is it? The mind boggles. I think Jackie O started this thread but she seems to have gone for good. I don't think any sort of meal planning is working right now. Any of us who are shielding just have to wait until we find out what we are getting in our delivery before deciding what to have.

I think it started out as, rather than plan meals and then go and buy the ingredients, just look and see what you’ve already got, and plan around that.
A lot of the recent posts have been about using things like bottom of the fridge veg, forgotten bits and pieces, etc, which goes well with the Love Food, Hate Waste concept.(I just lurve spiders!)

Yes I have had a read of a few pages. This one is a bit patchy, lots for a couple of days and then it gets going again for a couple of days. It's similar to my meal planning. I have never planned out a weeks menus for the week. I normally tend to go quite late to catch the YS stuff. I never come back from town without going into M&S after 4pm sometimes 5pm. You get a different variety of things after 5pm. I cook round what I get YS, or not if it's all meals and veg. I opened a tin of mixed beans last night so I will make a salad with that and then add some cabbage that needs using up to my potato, sweet potato and parsnip mash to fill me up after the salad. Now I have to rely on the deliveries it's slightly different LOs to deal with. I've solved the problem of having things that don't go by splitting things into courses.6

Just had a lovely meal!
Was tidying my fridge in anticipation of a new veg box delivery, and found some forgotten green beans, some forgotten asparagus stalks, a couple of sad carrots and a sad potato.
I also had four soft cherry tomatoes and some pine nuts at the end of their date.
Also half a jar of tomato paste and some fiery chilli pesto that had been in the fridge for a while.
So I chopped the veg up, added a chopped onion, sliced garlic, fresh and dried herbs, and stir-fried it, and then added the paste and pesto, and chucked in some cubed paneer cheese.
It made two good portions and it was yummy! 😊
There was probably a touch too much fiery chilli pesto, but I needed to use it up.
Looking forward to eating the rest tomorrow!(I just lurve spiders!)

Mr Zaxdog brought home five burgers braised in gravy (free) from work so boiled some pasta, chopped two burgers and added to a pan with more gravy, tomato puree and herbs. Simmered that whist the pasta cooked and then stirred through. Tasty, filling and cost approx 10p for the two servings :-) Out of the other three two will be turned into lunch for us tomorrow and one of them will be added to the dog's dinner.
