I have rather a lot of turkey in the freezers. I need to tap into any ideas anyone may have on new ways of using it. The problem I have is that DH is old fashioned and very English in his approach to food. Currently I do turkey casserole, pie (usually with a bit of added ham), pate, in puff pastry, wrapped in bacon, roast, soup, sandwiches. DH thinks rice and pasta are tasteless and foreign and he's genuinely allergic to tomatoes and tarragon. I on the other hand will eat anything. Any ideas???? One thing I did think of was trying to stick breadcrumbs to it but I've never had any success as the breadcrumbs fall off when I cook it. - help6

For breadcrumbs you need to dip your your turkey in breadcrumbs. You need to coat it with plenty of breadcrumbs. I suppose he is not too keen and different herbs and spices too. I would suggest you go through the BBC good food website and look for chicken recipes as well as turkey recipes. I can't imagine not cooking without rice and pasta or lots of grains, herbs spices making sauces. I'm refusing having the shopping deliveries for the over 70s. I may eat a meat and two veg meal once a month and it's usually a roast. Everything looks to be in packets or tins. I want raw ingredients. Most of the TV chefs have there own channels, you could look at them. You could list things you have to go with it and I could make you a recipe.I'm sorry you don't get to have many adventures with food.7

Dip in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs - usually works for me. hthBe Kind. Stay Safe. Break the Chain. Save Lives. ⭐️2025 Savings Pot Challenge: As a monthly amount, running total = £379.00

I suppose a diced turkey stir fry, using whatever vegetables are to hand, would be a no-no as well?
I find stirfries are also a great way to use up veg that is going a bit limp and sad, discoloured and not looking its best, though I suppose that is stbo on a thread like this in a sub-forum such as this! 😁😁😁

zafiro1984 - not generally a soup maker myself but would turkey soup be an idea, if not too similar to your casseroles?6

If hubby finds rice bland, can you maybe cook it in stock?Simple pilau rice recipe:heat some oil (I used corn (maïs) oil)add finely cut shalot (or a quarter of an onion)fry the shalot/onion until glazedadd 300g rice, stir until all glazedadd 600ml stock (from cube), put lid on pan. Do not stir, but maybe add some liquid if the rice goes dry.leave to softly boil for 10 minutes. Add salt/pepper to taste.Enjoy!Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.594

In the end, soaking the too tough toasted fresh coconut chunks seemed to soften it a bit. Could be the best method? Not a dentist myself but didn't feel confident the pieces may damage my teeth in my case. Instead, re-toasted it all again and this (for me) meant it could be ground up smaller.

Many thanks to all for your suggestions on turkey. I'm going to head to the BBC Good Food website later today to see what I can find on chicken and adapt that and I'm going to have another go with breadcrumbs,
I slow cooked a load of frozen plums in the slow cooker yesterday using no added water, after portioning them out to freeze I was left with almost 1litre of juice. Something at the back of my mind reminded me of something my mother said she did during the war - not that I was born in the war - she turned the juice into plum jelly/jam. I now have 2 jars of cloudy plum with cinnamon jelly/jam.7 -

And all those lovely vitamins retained!
Reminds me of of when I shared a house in my 20s and one of the guys roasted some meat, and despite my telling him not to, he insisted on pouring the juices down the sink and made gravy with some Bisto. 😱😢(I just lurve spiders!)
