Definitely worth drying the apples. The flavour will intensify a bit especially if you leave the skin on. You will need to slice the apples very thinly after removing the core. After slicing dip them in lemon water to stop them browning. It's hard to say how long they'll take to dry in the oven as it depends on the moisture level of the apples.
Put the oven onto it's lowest heat, put the apples into the oven and leave the door slightly ajar. Start checking after an hour and turn over and dry more. Will probably take anything from 2-3 hours.
It's probably worth googling to check what I've put but that's what I'd do!5 -
Worth a try, as it will stop me taking in more calories than I have to, for no great benefit!(I just lurve spiders!)

I’ve got one apple sliced and in the oven, so I’ll see how that goes, and if necessary revert to stewing with lots of spice! I wish I had some creme fraiche as that would help too, but I don’t.(I just lurve spiders!)

I have an apple tree so always get a glut in late summer. We stew the apples until soft and add cinnamon and a handful of raisins. It freezes really well and is lovely in the autumn on top of porridge or my boys like it for pudding with custard.7

Pyxis said:greenbee said:I had the same problem @Pyxis so suspect we have the same supplier. I don’t usually get potatoes or fruit so am a bit short on veg! Potatoes went to the person who brought my last lot of shopping (along with loo roll and honey which she couldn’t get) but I have unripe pears and kiwis to deal with.
Apples I would either chop into a big mixed salad, or grate into porridge or yogurt.
No salad, only cucumber, and no yogurt!
Edit......I would have hugged the delivery driver if I could have got close to him, as I was so glad to get the stuff! 😁8 -
I always make my porridge with water. Just leave it to soak for about 10-15 minutes before cooking and it becomes quite creamy. I sometimes just put a little milk on it once dished up if it's a bit too thick but not very often!
Have just made some patties to use up the last of the chickweed I got in my veg box this week to have with eggs for dinner tomorrow night. Glad I've made them today so that they can firm up in the fridge as they're really sticky!

hi all,
Just a quick question please, do you have to blanch carrots before freezing ? I was wondering if I could just wash, peel and slice and then pop them in the freezer.Well Behaved women seldom make history

I never blanch any veg I'm freezing as it usually gets used fairly quickly. If you're planning on keeping them for a year or more then best to blanch. I also wouldn't bother peeling just top & tail and give a good scrub. Lots of nutrients in the skin.
