So it's not possible to determine the cause of a collision if nobody's injured, only if they are?
I'm not sure whether you're after another argument or asking a question but in terms of reported statistics if the police haven't completed an accident report then there is no cause.
As for insurance data how can say how accurate that evidence is when you look at some of the questions asked on here.0 -
You think it's meaningless, doesn't make it so.;)
It is largely meaningless though.
Because whilst it's technically true that it's not the falling through the air that kills you, it's when you hit the ground and suffer severe injuries that you die - it's also still generally true that "falling off a tall building" will kill you. Someone trying to dispute that "falling off a tall building will kill you" by saying "it's not the falling that kills you" isn't going to win their argument.
Similarly: Saying "speed doesn't kill" because driving at speed doesn't just magically make you drop down dead is (probably deliberately) overlooking the important point which is that: In the vast majority of situations, driving faster will increase the likelihood of a collision, and will increase the severity of the collision - thus driving faster increases the chance of causing death.0 -

Not to mention all the idiots on motorbikes who think it is a great ideal to speed down the middle of moving, not crawling, traffic weaving around. And yes the odd one gets splatted, joy... Nothing quite like being delayed by hours.
And the spivs in their Beemers and Audi's and sports cars who believe that having an expensive car gives them priority on the roads.
And the taxi drivers who believe that being a "professional" driver make them better than everyone else, and who are in a hurry (because time is money).
And the codgers in clapped out old bangers who aren't really paying attention to what's going on around them.
And..... well, pretty much every single group of road users.jeepjunkie wrote: »Rarely do I ever see a car speeding in isolation.
Do you ever see a car *driving* in isolation?0 -

One thing people often don't realise is how dangerous it is to hit a tree. They really don't move. We have got a national speed limit road near us with a massive old oak tree on a bend so if a driver doesn't follow the bend he is straight into the tree. I am sure it's a special old tree but I often wonder if it would be felled if somebody died crashing into it.0

The tree's absolutely fine. The driver... wasn't.0 -

Probably end up with a plaque on it like the oak tree on my daily commute.0 -
Try coming out to the (proper) sticks some time. It's unusual to see anything else, off the handful of main roads. Even on them, it's more usual to have onesy-twosy "traffic".
"Oooh, traffic in that 'ereford. 'im's terrible, 'im is"
Yeah, I live in the sticks thanks. My post was in response to Jeepjunkie saying "Rarely do I ever see a car speeding in isolation.
"
The only way I can imagine never seeing a car *speeding* in isolation is if you never see a car *driving* in isolation.0
