I predict absolute chaos on launch date:eek:.......you didn't need wholesale changes but just a few tweaks, remember your last big change:mad:
WE'RE DOOMED0 -
If those examples are anything to go by - ugh! Presumably this is to cater for the mobile app users, rather than those of us that prefer to use a laptop?
I looked at the Big Green Egg egghead forum - what a mess.
I totally agree - it looks awful!Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -

It seems like everyone is really looking forward to the "exciting" new forums.

5. Competitions Time Entered and Skipped
We are migrating the 'Entered' and 'Skipped' buttons for the Competitions Time boards, but importing the data will take a little longer (there are 170 million competition entries and 320 million skips), so we expect the Competitions Time boards will be unavailable for a few hours longer after the move while we make sure everything works as expected. There are less than 2,500 active competitions at the moment so the numbers for entered/skipped must include figures for the approx 1,000,000 competitions that have ended - what a waste of time bringing that data over.
You could legitimately delete every thread in that forum where the latest post is from 2015 or earlier. This would leave less than 300,000 threads.
You would save 700,000 threads, about 2million posts and hundreds of millions of "entered" & "skipped" markers, and you could do this NOW, before the transfer starts, thus saving a lot of processing at the time of the transfer.
This may affect a user's Post Count, but you are already affecting the Thanks Count, and I think it is a price worth paying.

Fantastic thought behind this ,Everyone needs to reset their password on new platform. They are making sure everyone knows what is going on, will receive emails, rather than months or years later people finding their old password does not work.0 -

Perhaps if they could layout the forum in a similar to Digital Spy then it might be a success.0 -

Fantastic thought behind this ,
You are, of course, quite correct and the request lacks logic!
However, in my own (illogical) case, it turns out that I must have given my work email address when I originally registered, so this serves as a timely reminder to move my registration across to a private email address.0 -

The forum team are just performing a box ticking excercise.
Some may have registered an old email address they no longer use, or a work email that has changed, I can stay logged in to MSE indefinetly, so if, when the changes occur, and everything is re-set, I have not updated my email. i will no longer be able to log in.
Obviously if you no longer use your original registered email address, you will not have got the email from MSE, but you may still remain logged in to your account, at present, so you may see this discussion thread, and think ah !!

Just had the email that says
6. End of spaces in usernames
One of the optimisations of the new Forum platform means that spaces in usernames will be replaced with underscores. You don't need to do anything here, we're just letting you know.Just out of curiosity, what happens if both variations are already in use?
If for example User 2020 and User_2020 are both already in use. On a forum this big there are bound to be some overlaps.
Interesting ...
