i just re read the messages and remembered that i did have a wifi extender plugged in st i have restarted the laptop and so far it's not showing the old wifi name ...........finghers crossed
That's probably what was causing the problem with the laptop then.

Don't bother changing the 2.4-5Ghz settings, 99.9% of devices work just fine with both networks having the same name.

If by 'happened again' you mean that the laptop is still connecting to the old network, it can only mean one thing, which is that something in your house is still broadcasting the name of the old network.
Even if that's the case, and even if you are unable to locate such device, you can simply right click on that network and select 'Forget' (could be slightly different with different operating systems). If you forget the network, there's no chance the laptop will try to connect to it again.

I speak from experience ... following the bullet items I advised previously does help, and doesn't take much effort.

Does the new router only have 5GHz WiFi? Are you sure there isn't still also a 2.4GHz WiFi? If both do exist, as well as doing the above make sure you set each WiFi to have a different SSID (WiFi name) ... sometimes it can cause problems for some devices trying to jump between them.

    Sky router settings

I tried changing the name and it wouldn’t work at all so I had to reset the whole WiFi again (well sky did it for me)

If I go into settings it doesn’t show up so I’m unable to forget it,it was disconnected when ever the laptop was left and went into sleep mode

Ok, then you don't have the problem that the laptop is trying to connect to the old network.
When you get the error message, check what's wrong (has the connection to the router dropped? Has the signal bar gone down? Does it all seem fine, but it still doesn't connect?)

Just says can not connect we see a globe 🌍 icon instead of the WiFi icon, but when we click on the globe it says connect and it does without any problems, it’s just confusing as to why this happens as I’ve never seen that before

Try to connect to the 2.4 Ghz network if you are currently on the 5 Ghz (you should be able to change the settings on your router), see if that changes anything.

When 8 tried to change the name last time it didn’t work and sky said to not change it, I’m not sure if I’ll !!!!!! it up again if I try
