Impulse buys

  • Well, two weeks since my last impulse buy and after two no spend days, I fell off the wagon and bought a new colander today. Half price and the perfect colour for our recently finished new kitchen.....plus our existing colanders - a very dented one inherited from my parents and a 'copper' one that is rapidly delaminating - have definitely seen better days :p

  • I am usually quite good at stopping myself buying impulsively but I noticed I tend to buy more when I am angry or a bit upset. Is it only me?

Emotional spending is a recognised phenomenon. And tbh, as long as its small and brings you pleasure - a cup of coffee, or a lipstick - I think it does you good. Having a big splurge on stuff (especially something you'll barely use) is unlikely to bring you any additional happiness though :naughty:

Well it seems that I am ending the month as I started, buying like mad but spending relatively little for what I get. This weekend's chazzer haul was:

    - paperback to add to my classics section (Uncle Tom's Cabin)
    - 5m roll of decorative ribbon
    - small mirrored picture frame
    - small plastic jelly mould
    - giant ceramic popcorn cup
    - black iron wall rack (matches much of my hallway items)
    - door sealant (I was feeling practical, lol :D)

And in preparation for my baby's 5th birthday:
    - large silicone castle cake mould (BNWT, from Aldi)
    - Disney Frozen Elsa dress, as she outgrew the last
    - giant pair of pink butterfly wings, which she will go crazy over
    - "I am 5" badge to add to her birthday card

For a grand total of £7.55

    Well.............

I seem to be back in in a big way......via TKmax

They seemed to be having a massive chuck out of stock at rock bottom prices..... :T

Two knitted organic cotton cushions for £5. Inners are no good but covers are nice.

    Burberry make-up from £34 ....to £13

Silver partially gold plated bracelet.... £2.50.....I really like it, but may end up xmas pressie for next year.

Same as above necklace and earring set...£5.00

Various perfumes, I google them to see if I will like them( the contents), and if I don’t, use as room freshener ( not that I really need any of those).

A facial cleaning machine from £20....to £9.00 ( Xmas present to be).

    Grey throw..£5.00

    Manicure set...£2.00

    Sock set....£2.00

Slipper socks set...2 pairs...£2.00, all last items Xmas pressies .

And the kids stuff was crazy , on/off bf has granddaughter ...got 7 dress/leggings sets for £15.50ish....all £2.50, £3.00, one £1.50. I got some her size now, some size next year. I can return these if no good though. Friends daughter may want them for her daughter anyway so probably won’t return.

Oh and a raffia chair from community furniture place who are delivering it tomorrow morning, I will probably give them my rocking chair as it’s big, no-one ever sits on it, and it just gets in the way which ever room it is in. New raffia one is in mint condition, will be fine in any room.....and isn’t huge. I will love it.

I think that’s about it. Not bad for one day.

    I lasted..........

    A month.... :o:D

Oh no....a mandolin from Aldi, I will love this too.

Impulse buying rocks.....and this wasn’t fixing a krap working week as I haven’t it was pure impulse and wonderful .

    Edit....
Mandolin is utter rubbish and will return. I can chop better and faster myself. Maybe this is something you shouldn’t buy on the cheap...?
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    VfM4meplse.....

Wizz to your nearest TK for kiddies clothes, it may have been just my local shop of course, but there were some serious bargains to be had. Dressing up outfits for £1.00-£3.00, dresses with unicorns and all that malarkey on etc.

    Edit,
I can remember you saying you were having a baby etc.....can’t believe that was nearly 5 yrs ago..! I am getting old, time is just flying by.

Not quite, I have commandeered my sister's :D

Today I found her a BNWT Hello Kitty satchel for 50p. She has an official one for school, but this should bring the same organisation to her weekend excursions with me. I also found a thick padded parka that looked v similar to the Regatta one I was wearing (purchased by way of the chazzer) - much like the one below - for £2 for my mum:

Plus a ceramic plant pot for 25p, a blouse that my sister will pinch - that's fine, as long as I get to keep her daughter :rotfl: - a set of 8 BNWT clothes hangers for 50p, and two books for me. Total chazzer expenditure of £6.55.

Yesterday I had an impulse buy inspired by a fellow OSer - a large bag of Babyels because I couldn't find any Applewood in my local supermarket. On the way out I noticed the display of seeds and bulbs for planting, a box of bleeding hearts caught my attention but sadly the box was empty. This is the first time I have seen them for sale, and I am definitely getting them next time (so they won't technically be an impulse buy).

All this flipping talk of applewood has made me but applewood!

I've just eaten some straight up and then put some on toast.

    SO, so good.

I hope you get some Vfm4

  • After our horrible shock of the pampas grass last week, we've been super-disciplined with no extra spends.

We had a last of our Sainsbury's vouchers left,£6 off a £30 spend, so we stocked up on birthday cards ready for the Spring plethora we will have to celebrate, got a couple of ready meals to freeze so we have a lazy meal when we get back from America, some milk and fruit. I also bought L'Oreal foundation at £7, reduced from £11, rather than cross the car park to Boots for their foundation.

We also made meals from whatever was in the fridge: stir fries, Thai style.

It'll be the first time we're not giving our neighbour a bag of stuff that needs to be used!

Yesterday evening I took a detour into Poundland, specifically to see if I could find some Bleeding Hearts - no luck, but they did have quite a few plants and bulbs around, including the usual seasonal roses and fruit bushes. I came away with 2 Philadelphus plants, which were sprouting and will be planted this afternoon. (I have a couple of mature trees in my garden and although they look dead to the world for 50 weeks of the year, come June / July they offer the most amazing floral display and bouquet for a fortnight, and are well worth it! They are certainly not greening up yet so to propagate atm would be a tough call indeed). Garden's looking good, and I did the right thing in excising some of the trees from the root - so much neater now excess canopies are dispensed with.

Total spent on impulse buys this month is around £65* - but this has been an exceptionally spendthrift month for me, partially because January is always a month I indulge in self-TLC (it's never a good month for me) and the upside of that is chazzers overflow with goodies.

February's here, bring on the sunshine and spring flowers :)

*Or £85, depending on how you look at it - the last £20 was on outdoor electric boxes, which I hadn't planned on buying until the winter, but got a good deal online last night thanks to a certain poster... :D
