I posted this on the main site - what do you guys think?? AM I being stupid?

    Okay - deep breath....

OH and I are currently aiming to save £500 - £700 a month towards a deposit for bigger house and paying off student loan debts. However, we've decided that we'd like to try for baby number 3 (definitely the last!) and this has changed my goals somewhat. Before baby comes (late this year? next year? who knows??) I'd like to take hubby away for a fabulous, last blow out type thing weekend break. Reason for this is that at the minute his mum will happily have the boys for the occassional weekend - however, when baby makes 3 it will be a long while before we have this luxury. I intend to breast feed for a year so it would be at least that long after baby comes, and probably then some as she's not really into babies - we'd probably wait until he was a toddler.
I'd also like to go on a family holiday with our older boys without a baby throwing a spanner in the works. They're 3 1/2 and 5 and very into activities/swimming etc so it would be lovely to enjoy a holiday with them as again, it wont be until baby is toddler that we will do it with all three.
So at the minute I'm seriously tempted to call a halt to our savings goals and use, if I'm being realistic. the equivalent of 4 months savings on a weekend break and a family holiday. Then, of course, we'll have cot/buggy to pay for at some stage.
I feel guilty just thinking about it as a bigger house is important to us - but on the other hand, you cant buy time back and I cant buy the time with just my older boys. And is a few months really going to make a massive difference to our long term goals? Life is for living and enjoying. at the end of the day.
Am I getting carried away? Am I being stupid?

hey daisy - are u an ugg convert too?? i'm waiting on the arrival of my pair (still!!) - they cleared uk customs on fri so hopeing they'll be here tomo!! yey!!

sure am - i was pretty active on the monster ugg thread in the early days - think i got my first pair in october - havent really been off my feet since

then i got another pair for christmas and exposed my mother to the joy that is ugg wearing

they are just delicious !! hope yours arrive soon - what colour have you gone for ?

fingers crossed for your hospital visit - hub has a mole that changes colour and ive been asking him to go and get it checked for the last 2 years - but he still hasnt !!

as for the savings thing - well your still young and have plenty of time to achieve your long term goals so if its not going to put you into debt then i say go for it because i do firmly believe that yes life is for living - not just counting your money or admiring your home !! i think you need to achieve a balance which is the tricky bit !!

    have a good day :)

hi daisy :j yey - they arrived today :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

They're soooo gorgeous - I got the short boot in the classic sand - although not sure how long they'll last that colour - maybe should have gone for choc but hey, there's always next xmas. they're so soft and cosy its unreal although they do feel abit tight on my big toe (I'm an awkward half sizer and went down rather than up) so i'm hoping they'll give a bit one i've worn them in. haven't got any waterproofer though so cant wear them out yet

  • Hi Roxie,

    Work on your script!!!!!

Anyway, now that's out of the way, I think the idea of some sort of break before the little one will be due is a nice idea, just make sure you try and get it as DFW as possible, if you have any Tesco points lying about these go well into coupons for breaks / hols etc.

Have fun and keep us posted on what you decide!

    XxX

ooooops - just read your post marksandsparks - after i've just paid for a completely unmoneysaving weekend trip to prague for hubbys birthday. By the time I've added spends it'l cost 2 months of the savings plan - gulp. still, I'm thinking final blow out before big pregnant no social life me and screaming, wailing bundle of joy no social life me. plus its a valentines pressie for us both (day before his b'day) and his b'day pressie/going out rolled into one. its all booked, his mums sorted for having the boys and i'm just wetting myself with excitement! i hope it snows!
i'm defo gonna keep it a secret until his b'day morning - if i can keep it in! i just hope he doesnt read this thread!!!

apart from that - a no spend day - :o

hopsital phoned today - i've got to go in on friday. thinkin about it, i think this extravagence is abit of a knee jerk reaction. i mean, it doesn't take a psychiatrist does it. health scare inspires big holiday blow out. trying not to worry about it thou till friday. least it keeps mind off driving test thou:rolleyes:

No spend day today - wooo! Called dales work to try to sneakily arrange his days off for prague with the secretary - and he answered! she must be off sick or something. it totally threw me and i was silent for about a minute before spluttering something about was he going out tonight - when i knew full well he wasnt!
