Can anyone who has the HSBC regular saver:

    http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/savings/regular-saver;jsessionid=0000uQaPpXu7fRexgT9MsyotF6l:11j74lld0

confirm if it is an online or branch only product. The website says you have to call them up or go to the branch to open one but no mention of managing it online.

I am happy to open one of their Current Account Advance Accounts in order to get it but it would be nice to keep track of it online.

Hi.Yes you do need to go into the branch or ring them, but once opened, and you have the current account advance open and you have also registered for online banking,it will all show up.When the standing order into the regular saver goes our from your current account it will show online,as will any other accounts with HSBC.

I don't know how i would manage without online banking now.Cannot fault the HSBC website.

The main reason that it is not an online application appears to be so that the staff completing the application process can ensure that the applicant's salary/retirement income is being mandated to the Advance account - a requirement of the Regular Saver (but not normally for the Advance account).

I will open the current account then transfer the £500 in there so the staff can see that there is money in it. Hopefully that will keep them quiet and open the RS :)

Good luck - it didn't work for me. I had to wait for a month until my salary mandate went through.

Bah :( Did you change your salary back to your 'old' account afterwards or leave it pointing to HSBC?

The requirement is that it has to be paid into the Advance account for the full period of the RS account.

    Hi Money Saving Experts,

    Here is this weekend's update.

    - Alliance & Leicester Save & Protect interest rate 6% fixed for 12 months (was 8%) for new applicants - this is the account that is only available if you take out an insurance product at the same time

    - Alliance & Leicester Premier Regular Saver paying 7% fixed for 12 months launched but only available if you open a new Premier current account, see post 5 for more details

    - Alliance & Leicester Super Fixed Rate Monthly Saver (Issue 7) and Bradford & Bingley Super Fixed Rate Monthly Saver (Issue 7) both launched - same details as the Abbey product, pays 6% fixed for a year but you need to take out an investment or insurance product, see post 6 for details

    - Ipswich Target Saver Issue 5 launched paying 2.95% variable for 12 months on £10-250, see post 4 for more details

The Bank of England left the base rate unchanged yesterday. The third best account on Martin's savings page which is easily available to everybody is paying 2.5%. This means that a few more accounts have now been added to the first page of this thread...

    - Cumberland BS Regular Saver paying 2.7% variable (locals only) and Teachers BS Regular Saver paying 2.6% variable added to post 2
    - Lloyds TSB Monthly Saver paying 2.55% fixed added to post 5

I will do another update next weekend.

Picked up a leaflet at West Brom re their Birthday Bonus regular saver account.

At the end of the 1st year, conditional bonus is withdrawn and account changes to a no notice branch account (currently 1%).

No posters displayed in branch - had to request the leaflet and insist that I didn't want an appointment to open the account. It can be opened over the counter as long as you have some ID with you (or you're an existing customer of the West Brom).

You ring for a leaflet on 0845 33 00 611 (braille, audio or large print).
