Great detective work Special_Saver 2 and pass on some Scooby snacks from me also :T

A number of company spokespeople must have said following your weekly updates “if it weren’t for that pesky Special_Saver 2 we’d have got away with it” :D

I know you don’t cover regular saver ISAs here. But it is worth saying in passing that the Principality 5% regular saver ISA (an ISA version of an old friend) looks a good product for the new tax year. Or better still the 7% First Direct regular saver ISA if you are an existing First Direct 1st account holder.

Abbey at Bradford & Bingley Fixed Rate Monthly Saver (Issue 11)

Details the same as the Abbey entry above.

I do not know if you can open one of these in addition to the Abbey account with the same issue number. Please feel free to post on this thread if you try to open one of each and let everybody know whether it is possible or not.

This morning, I opened an Abbey Fixed Monthly Saver Issue 11.

This afternoon, I phoned my B&B branch to open a Fixed Monthly Saver Issue 11. I was told that I could not open Issue 11 as I already had Issue BBI1 (opened in February). She explained to me that what they can and what they cannot do was slightly different from Abbey because their progress to Abbey's system had not yet been fully completed and some of their T&Cs were different, too.

I was also told that I could not have an Issue 11 with Abbey and another with B&B.

"progress to Abbey" - a contradiction in terms

Another regular saver , this one is from The Scottish Building Society.

    Min - £25.00 per month

    Max -£1000 per month.

    Rate 4% , includes a 2% bonus .

Not sure if it is available outside Scotland.

Update.. You need £1000 to open an account from outside Scotland.

Egg savings have reduced from 2.85% to 2.5% today.Only just opened the account and was transferring some more in tomorrow. Now not sure!
  • Hi Folks,

Dagobert, thanks for the information. I saw your post yesterday and I updated the entry in post 4 accordingly.

fullstop, thanks but that account is already covered - have a look at the top of post 2. You can actually open an account with less than £1000 if you live outside Scotland - see the link in my entry in post 2.

Froglet, thanks, I will go and update the entry in post 9 right now. It is a shame that interest rate has dropped!

    All the best,

Can you open the 6% version if you already have the 7.75% predecessor?

No: From the Monthly Savings page from Barclays

The 7.75% is now the 6%. They dropped the rate to 6% for all customers on 1/12/08:

The 7.75% is still 7.75% for people who opened during period 02/06/08-30/11/08:
The above rates were effective for accounts opened from 2nd June until 30 November 2008 and are fixed for the 12 month term.
Only those who opened after 1st Dec get 6%
  • Hi Everybody,

I have checked through everything and there is nothing else to change for the posts on the first page of this thread and no new accounts to add. I will do another update next weekend.

    Have a nice weekend,
