Oh, yeah, forgot to mention the fact that they wanted 2 pieces of ID sent through with a postal application. Decided to skip it and open more Tesco's accounts instead.

Edit: In answer to a previous question - No, he didn't sound Portuguese, apparently he sounded very English.

I'm trying to open a Tesco account as well and they need 2 pieces of ID sent to them, after I started the application on line.

We have already successfully opened 1 Tesco account about a month or so ago without a requirement for extra ID so I'm hoping that it will be ven easier second time around as we will be exisitng customers.

Is there the option to take it to customer service in stores that do banking ?

Unfortunately not. There was a poster a few weeks back who ended up cancelling his application for this reason. He was also based in Edinburgh, so as an alternative to a store, he offered to take his documents into head office. That was also refused.

Nothing new - most banks will try to verify electronically (it's in both parties' interests to do it this way), but sometimes it's necessary to obtain proof from applicants.

It can differ with the account provider. Mine went straight through electronically with Tesco, but I was required by Halifax to show my ID.

In general, banks are checking more than they ever used to, because of the more stringent regulations they have to comply with.

The Nottingham Building Society will be decreasing their Regular Saver interest rate from 3.1% to 2% from 18th July.

    https://www.thenottingham.com/savings/useful-tools/rate-checker/

Select the 2nd Regular Saver from the drop-down menu to see the upcoming change.

A couple of days on I wonder if anyone has received a letter or other notification of this.

Have you tried going for their standard current account? They may be less picky for that and it would get you a 4% Regular Saver.
Yeah I already have that but I'm not sure whether, if I open a 4% one now, I can upgrade it to a 6% one mid-way through the year.
