The necessity for an ID check every 2 years is absurd imo. I feel that the real reason to get anyone into a branch is to chat about one's financial requirements and all insurances in particular. It is about selling and not customer care. The 'face to face' requirement is really unjustifiable. All BS may be looking to this appointment system but it is for their benefit and not necessarily for a member.

They never up selled anything to me when i last went in for an ID check.

What a dreadful service I've had trying to apply for a Santander regular savings account. One cannot open it online, only in a branch or over the phone. After two days attempting to get through on the phone, waiting for over an hour, I've given up. I had almost begun to think that Santander had climbed off the bottom of the customer satisfaction heap, but not any more.

Thats what speakerphone is for. Leave it on the side until they finally answer!

Excellent! One person less competing for that lovely 5% rate. The fewer people take it up, the longer it is likely to last for the rest of us.

    Hi Folks,

I have updated the first page of this thread.

I have added that the Nottingham BS Sports Saver to post 3. The details are exactly as mentioned in Kazza242's post (3854).

I cannot find anything else that has changed.

I will do another update next weekend. I hope you all enjoyed this long Bank Holiday weekend.

This may only be of interest to anyone who has still got a 6 or 7 year old Yorks Regsave (the 3.75% gross variety) and who is due to receive interest on the 1st of May. I had a letter from them today saying that I had exceeded the max £20k limit. My spreadsheet told me that my balance had been £20k since the first of March and I was due to withdraw £860 on Saturday (30/04/16) in order that I could continue to sponsor it for another 12 months. A check online revealed that interest had been paid on the 24th of April rather than the first of May which has been payday for the last 6 years and indeed I was in breach of the T & Cs. A trip to the branch revealed all, due to the forthcoming Bank Holiday it had been decided to pay the interest early. The sum paid was about £50 less than last year so I asked when the interest rate dropped. They said it hadn't, it is only the conditional bonus (3.5%) which had been paid early and the basic rate (0.25%) will be paid as normal. They said that the letters had been computer generated and as long as I withdraw on Saturday then I am safe for a further 12 months.
If anyone else is in the same position as myself then you can rest easy.

Fortunately my interest payments were in March, or perhaps not fortunately as I paid tax on them.

I was quite surprised to get the letter saying I was nearing the maximum amount and that if I exceeded it I would not get any interest on the whole of the account.

I'd already taken my payments down to £10 a month and before the year runs out I will withdraw £120 for the next years monthly payments plus what I expect my interest to be next year taking into account that it will be paid without tax taken off.

Oh dear, that doesn't bode well - I'm currently half an hour into listening to their hold music trying to open the same account!

Answered after 37 minutes in the end; after that a fairly painless 15 minutes of having T&Cs read at me while I played Solitaire on the computer, and all done :)

Frogletina (et al), instead of withdrawing £120, have you considered only withdrawing £110 and withhold £10 in the month before your interest is due to be paid ? (T + Cs say you can miss one payment), that way you get a £20k balance for an extra month. Wow I hear you say, well every little helps I am constantly reminded. (37 and a half p gross). I received the basic interest on the first, it still mystifies me why they had to mess about with it in the first place.

In my case I've realised that I will have to withdraw money 3 months before my interest is paid as I will reach £20,000 before the end of the year and my interest date is in March.

With the Leeds Reg Saver, I have just opened this account and received my passbook, it shows my cheque was paid in on 26 April, I'm going to set up a standing order for future payments but wondering can I do so today for May or do I have to wait to do each one on the 26th of the month too?

You can pay it in at anytime you like during May.
