Nottingham Building Society have launched a new regular savings account, called Sports Saver, paying 4.00% until 30 September 2017.
You can pay in between £1 - £250 per month and save a maximum of £4,500 whilst the account remains open (opening deposit minimum of £10).
You can also make more than one payment in a month if you want to, but you must not pay in more than £250 in one calendar month.
You have to open it in branch.
The account also matures on 30 September 2017.
No withdrawals allowed unless special circumstances.
Please see here for further information.
Thanks Kazza,
I have a branch in the next town, do you know if once I make the initial payment I can then make future deposits by direct debit, or do I need to physically visit the branch each month ?
Thanks HC0 -

You can pay by regular Standing Order or set up a manual bank transfer as you like.
Nottingham do not do Direct Debits.
You can make multiple payments each month so long as the total does not exceed £250.Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?0 -

Thanks Kazza .. you are always on the ball with these regular savers offered by Notts BS.
The Branch stipulation is a real restriction for some .. more than 100 miles away in my case. Pity they will not permit postal applications unless a poster knows a really friendly branch?.0 -

Concur on this - thanks Kazza0 -
This may only be of interest to anyone who has still got a 6 or 7 year old Yorks Regsave (the 3.75% gross variety) and who is due to receive interest on the 1st of May. I had a letter from them today saying that I had exceeded the max £20k limit. My spreadsheet told me that my balance had been £20k since the first of March and I was due to withdraw £860 on Saturday (30/04/16) in order that I could continue to sponsor it for another 12 months. A check online revealed that interest had been paid on the 24th of April rather than the first of May which has been payday for the last 6 years and indeed I was in breach of the T & Cs. A trip to the branch revealed all, due to the forthcoming Bank Holiday it had been decided to pay the interest early. The sum paid was about £50 less than last year so I asked when the interest rate dropped. They said it hadn't, it is only the conditional bonus (3.5%) which had been paid early and the basic rate (0.25%) will be paid as normal. They said that the letters had been computer generated and as long as I withdraw on Saturday then I am safe for a further 12 months.
If anyone else is in the same position as myself then you can rest easy.0 -

After two days attempting to get through on the phone, waiting for over an hour, I've given up. I had almost begun to think that Santander had climbed off the bottom of the customer satisfaction heap, but not any more.
Oh dear, that doesn't bode well - I'm currently half an hour into listening to their hold music trying to open the same account!0 -

You were lucky, my local branch was booked solid for appointments until next week, so I had to go to one further away, even then I get the sense I was lucky to get it opened by the end of the month.
Still, all sorted now!0 -

They certainly don't make it easy. Having said that the branch method is pretty painless once you get an appt.
Seems to me they are using the new a/c as a way of doing a physical identity check on a proportion of their customers - a box ticking exercise maybe?0
